Strong composition and good B/W tone rendering

Good composition, but am scratching my head at the high marks of this image. Snow (even in B&W) is white, not gray. Also, I do not understand the burning of the edges (vignetting) in a snow scene, it makes the snow look dirty and gray. Also visable is a very obvious smudge on right center of the image, either sensor dust or slight mishap with a brush in PS. Overall, very poor editing choices on this image.

It's the sought of image that I'd be happy to see on my wall. I feel it will retail its appeal because of a nice combination of simplicity, depth and atmosphere. Great work.
