Although it probably sounds foolhardy to those of you who know what I've been up to lately, I got a new camera!! :-) (I can totally rationalize and justify the purchase, too!) Anyway - I took my new 40D and 28-135mm out for a walk about last week on the National Mall in DC. I wanted to explore some of the settings and performance.

At the same time I've been wanting to do a good series of somewhat abstract architecture shots of the new(ish) Museum of the American Indian. It's a gorgeous building, but difficult to shoot on a sunny day (which happens with great frequency in DC). But last week it was overcast, so I shot a LOT of images...

Of course I am always happy with critiques on individual images, but for this series, I will be uploading a whole bunch of shots and would love for some comparative critiques as well. Comments on color balance, color vs. black & white, composition, perspective, etc. comparing the images will be most valuable to me.

Thank you so much for your support of the first three images in this series. I am enjoying the feedback that you are giving me.

Fantastic architecture well captured, Lou Ann.

Of the Indian Museum photos you've posted, I think I like this one the best. I'm definitely liking the B&W the best (I find them more dramatic and I am a drama queen :) Your framing choice with the drop shadow is spot on! It makes the building appear 3D. The lines in this particular shot are terrific - snake like.

Well done!

I love the lines of this building. It flows like an ocean wave. I like the pov you used or each of these photos.

Lou Ann, I think everyone covered it all! It's great! The curves, the shadows, the point of view, your choice of B&W presentation, all come together for a fine photo!

This is gorgeous, Lou Ann. I love the way the top right and bottom left look like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.

Lou Ann, I just can't come up with anything constructive for this image. It seems pretty well perfect. The exposure is spot on and even in the darkest areas, there is plenty of detail. About the best I can say is that there are no true highlights other than a bright vertical rail or something on the upper balcony. Maybe an adjustment with levels to set the whites a bit brighter. Its worth a try, but I doubt that it can be improved upon. Its quite elegant!!

Very nice capture on the curved lines.

Also I like the soft shaded area but still enhances the details.

very welld done!

By the way, it must be the same architect as the one who did the Canadian Museums of Civilations in Hull. Same lines.

Greetz!
