You've found the perfect solution to my Grandma babysitting duty dilemna, when theres six of the little buggers I'd like to lock ME up for safety. What a pair of charmers, I see an acting career in your little Granddaughters future, what a look. I sure hope you didn't loose the key! You're a wonderful Grandpa, but that doesn't surprise me. Happy Valentines Day to you and yours.

Glad you saw it for what it was. I have to tell you, after I finished this I was creeped out. It made me terribly emotional and I felt quilty for having done it. (actually it was the grandson's idea) It just made me feel so sad. Perhaps it reminded me of all the kids in the world that never have much of a chance and all the cruelty out there. As stupid as it sounds, it still bothers me to look at this image.

And, yes the granddaughter is a hell of an actress. Last night mom came home from work to pick the two of them up and she started in with the "I want to stay with grandpa teary-eyed bit," and played it to the max. She can turn the tears on in an instant and knows how to get whatever she wants out of gramps. (She calls me, "Grampio."

Happy Valentines to you my dear friend.

I'm glad someone has finally listened to my rants on child discipline! I love the girl's hangdog expression. She's either a good actress or someone told her she was staying in there for good.

this is how my 9-year-old feels about school. (she is quite an actress as well). i have to say though i can't disagree with her too much. she has to wear a uniform, can't talk at lunch or in the hall before school, rarely gets recess, has to literally walk on a line anywhere she goes on campus... oh yeah, if the kids do start talking at lunch a red light starts flashing and a siren goes off...i'm not joking!

anyway, great shot. i think it is a good thing it makes you uncomfortable. love your granddaughter's name for you, Grampio!

Dave, glad these little prisoners were yours and the shot was staged. Hopefully the grandson did not ask for a taste of water boarding as well. Cute little kids and another great choice for b&w. Barb :)

That school sounds worse than prison. The rules there (I'm told) are not that strict. In fact they couldn't enforce them if they were. I hope your daughter is benefiting from such a regime. I know I couldn't hack it.

Thanks for looking and commenting.

Thanks. I think they are cute, but I'm a bit prejudiced. Fortunately they have no clue about waterboarding yet. And I can't tell you how much I wish they would never have to find out about that and a thousand other human evils. It makes me sad to think about the world we have left them. I try not to project that on them, because they are just children, but it does weigh heavily upon me when I think of the future. But I need to lighten up. We were just having fun. And after jail, we went to the park.

David, the connotation and association is a sad one, and as it made you emotional for doing it, it evoked in me as a viewer, many sad thought about children in hard condition not only of poverty, but abuse, violence etc.I was exposed ( through my medical work before) to that kind of cases.

The children are good actors though ;-))

Thanks. I'm glad most people associated fun and playacting with this. While I have been around my share of poverty (Peace Corps and Probation Officer), I have in general been very successful in eliminating unpleasantness from my life. I guess it was just because of my intense relationship with this pair and the starkness of the image that it got to me. It is the only piece I have posted without a title. I don't usually have any problem in creating titles. Maybe I'm just silly sometimes. Sometimes...

Years from now these two will be very happy that you DID take this photograph. You can count on that! Nice shot.
