Seems like somebody forgot to update this decoration display. I would love to detect similar peculiar scenes here too, but not much luck...

I was about to comment this capture earlier today for another reason but then dropped that posting. The reason was the faintness of this capture, especially the foreground part seems on my calibrated display washed out. I know, I know, it's so easy to say this and that about better equipment, and you certainly are The Chef in your Pixeleria, so forgive me. I just have experienced great pleasure after I purchased a new display and calibration unit: now I can see details in dark images, previously hidden by my old display, and on the other hand many of my own previously uploaded photos were too faint too. So. Let me show you a version which I would prefer on *my* display, so that you could compare and check how this looks on yours. Post-editing done by simple Levels adjustment, raised saturation level should likely need adjustment. Just my 2 humble cents.

PS I won't take the habit to put my finger on your work like this time...

Thanks. I like your version in a more aesthetically pleasing sense. And I would not have any qualms about adopting it. I did kind of feel that the way I did it was a more ethereal aura about it, which seemed suitable to the subject matter. And, while I think this would be disliked by most pnetters no matter what, it might be more aesthetically acceptable with a move more toward your suggestion.

As for the strangeness that is found in these parts, I can only offer my regrets to you that the Finnish people are not as mentally whacked out as our population. But in all fairness, it must be said that we've been perfecting it for quite some time now. Who knows, perhaps your country will take a turn toward superstition, ignorance, violence and irrationality too.

Thanks for your explanation. Now I see there was some choices and decision behind your version, good to know. So your display is in fair condition anyway (my worries are over). For me it's refreshing to look at your and Jack's photos as you both do deliver another kind of world to my eyes. Fine that you skip the obvious and focus of these other kind of scenes you have done repeatedly.

At first I thought why did you leave your Blackberry in the image at the top of the frame....then as I open the larger view..I figured out this padre is using solar energy to light up his statue of Mary (I am assuming)in the background...way cool!

There is a lecture at University in Missoula coming up on how Christians can do their share to prevent global warming...Your padre is ahead of the game...

Aesthetically speaking...I would have cropped this image a bit symmetrically...either more on the right or give more on the left...but you know me I jeez say it as I see it...I would like to see more of this scene from a couple of steps back...This Padre went thru a lot of work...maybe a shot at dusk or night with the solar powered lights making Mary glow....wvmm

A strange method for promoting the growth of religion. I wonder how often padre waters the holy family - they look a bit dehydrated. :) Oh well, I guess he knows what he is doing.... Your comment above is as hilarious as the pic, btw. Made me smile.

man, you have been on a roll lately! care to share some of that creative juice?...or have you listened to Michael and started drinking V8. if that is what it is, i'll order a case of it.

You are a rare commodity around here lately. And then you show up on this one which was taken more on a lark than anything else. You remain as unpredicatable as always. And pretty sharp boy too. I didn't like the Blackberry in the image, nor the base of the statue, but I guess I didn't care enough to try and clone out the two and make the foliage go all the way to the top. I'm going to answer a few comments and then go over and see WTF you've been up to.

That's a pretty good one about promoting growth. Thanks. There are at least two places in Kingsburg where they still have the Nativity scenes out from Christmas. I don't yet know if it is a new trend, or we just have too many slobs that don't feel like taking their Christmas decorations down. This one, I guess is meant to be a year long celebration of the birth.

Yeah, a roll of low rates. Oh well, I'm following the advice I left for Laurent. No worries. And, yes, I do drink a glass of V8 every morning, but I'm not sure it's helping that much.

We know each other's work almost as well as we know our own. Glad you enjoyed it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but nobody is likely to mistake this for a beauty.

Has to be seen large, you are my smile of this morning.... it looks like a children play( you remember the tin soldiers? ).... but belongs to Padre..... and he simply neglected to clean the dust ...lol. I like the fact that you have left something of the real reality on the upper part, gives it the right context!

Don't expect the 3/3's to understand the irony, too difficult a task for them ,easier to rate it 3/3....

Not to worry. If I couldn't have handled the 3/3 s I wouldn't have put it out for rates. I knew they would be there, and I knew this wouldn't be popular, and, at least in this case, I didn't give a damn. When highly skilled people such as you and the others that have stopped by take the time to look and comment, I have no complaints. Take care.

the photo with the caption are funny...the caption makes it funny. I wonder where the crocodile is, or at least a small snake. Seen any dead mice around there? Cheers, Micheal

I agree with Markku's assessment, although not with his proposed solution.

I understand what you are attempting to do here, wanting that "ethereal aura." I think that's a creative and interesting way to approach this image. I don't think you would want a more saturated or deeper look, but think you can refine your type of approach so that it looks more intentional and is more effective in creating the atmosphere you have in mind. I think you have ended up with more of a washed out and hazy look than an ethereal one.

Check out these Scandinavian photographers. They approach light and color in a very ethereal way, to me. The colors are thin and pastel-like yet very refined and moving. The light is atmospheric yet in a sort of foggy and nuanced way. By foggy, I mean not hazy but that you can actually feel the atmosphere.

In this link, I'm particularly thinking of the second photographer listed, ATILA, but there's a lot of interesting stuff here:

This next link is mostly portraits, but notice the light touch used with respect to color and the way the light and color yield an ethereal but not a hazy feeling:

I enjoy your uncanny ability to see past the trees and show the picture of the forest... This "forest" is hillarious.

I have not had much time lately, but I did go to the sites you suggested and found them quite interesting. I'm not sure I know how one would move on to that level, but I'm going to spend some more time looking. Thanks a lot. Those were quite interesting. Take care.

Thanks. Sometimes I think it's more like I'm lost in the forest and wandering without a compass. Maybe that's a good thing.....sometimes.

Kitsch as kitsch can. I think this scene deserves the feel of a dry-ice mist. Miracles deserve, no demand extra drama. I don't think increasing saturation makes a difference. It is already awe-inspiring. Why gild the lily?
