The sign is perfect! (Those Eureka Springs hills can damn near kill a shopper.) Well seen, Dave. And well made. Regards, Joe

Thank you all so much. I wasn't sure about posting this one because I was so unhappy that I was unable to capture more of the other two people behind the lady. Particularly the guy with (her?/the) cart. But I did like that church in the background and the way the cigarette dangles from her mouth.

It's often the little touches in a photograph that make them special to me. Here, certainly her dangling cigarette, her carriage, the church, the ominous sky against the Wild Blue Yonder sign (even in black and white) all work effectively. But it's her frail hand resting on the window ledge that provides that bit of humanity and poignancy that I really respond to. What you have captured is the moment, the significance of gestures and moods that meaningful photos communicate.

Thanks. There is a bit of dynamism in this with the gone in a split second feel. I think that's what pushed me to go black and white, because somehow the medium lends itself to the temporal.

Thanks. There's only one God in this country. It's Consumerism. Consumerism in all its aspects. Consume the land; consume what's under the land; consume our workers; and consume our people. But, we've got lots of company out there.

Consume and replace with counterfeits. Real for plastic. All things must pass, but plastic is forever.

What a life. To spring from your bed with an empty tote bag and then wander the streets filling up that tote bag and dumping your discoveries into drawers and countertops, exhausted, and then start over again. It's a wonderful life you've captured.

Grayed and blurred, this captures your sentiment perfectly.

Thanks to both of you for checking this one out. Sometimes grab shots work out and other times they make one glad for the delete button. This one is somewhere in between those extremes.

I don't have the energy or the words today to do this justice but it contains all the unromanticized elements of that particular moment that makes the picture unique and surprising. The church $400,000; the car $18,500; the dangling cigarette - priceless.

Only $400,000 for the church? Such a nice church it is. You are out of touch with God. Dangling cigarette? That you got right.

the expression is really superb....both relax with the dandling cigaette and fragile with the hand searching some stable helping point....the background and the car on the left provide the extra touch of life street context....

David, I like it. A lot. However, there must be something wrong with me..I looked at this photo for several minutes (ok it was probably only several seconds) and did not realize that it had anything to do with shopping or consumerism until I read your title & all of the PN feedback. For me, the irony was just that these adorable delicate little beings were off on an adventure and had wondered off into the wildblue yonder and found themselves needing to hold on for dear life and smoke because of the stress of it all. I thought the cart was holding their traveling belongings. See why I usually just rate and don't make many comments? Anyway, another intriguing photograph on your part. Peace, Jeanne

There is not a thing in the world wrong with your response. And that's the downside to titles. I love playing with words and melding them to images, but the bad thing about that is it pushes the viewer into seeing what I wanted them to see, which is not all bad, but limits their perceptions (if they allow it) and that is not always good, because of exactly what happened with you. Go with your interpretation. It's as valid as mine or anybody else's.

Thanks for viewing AND commenting. Peace to ya

A terrific shot, David. All the elements for a classic are here, damn fine. Everything must go, Ladies and Gentlemen, everything must go. If it all carries on, one day even WE will be gone.

P.S.: I can't give this picture the rating it deserves, but I'll be back as soon as I can.

Thanks a lot. I'm glad to see you are sifting back through the portfolio a bit, and hope you find some worthwhile images.

David, I love it when you get people. You have a way of capturing them unknowingly. It is something you don?t do very often, but when you do MAN do you swing,,,hit,,, home run.

All the little nuances are in this one. Just like the one of SHORTY's Road house. Little tiny nuggets of delicious photo goodness all sprinkled throughout the image. From the way the store canopy is hung up on the lamp, to the woman in front with her flowered knee pants, hare labored walk, and the cig hanging from her lip.. PRICLESS

Very cool beans my dear friend.

Thanks for the high praise. I really thought of this as pretty much a failure, and left it in the scrap heap for a long time. I felt the street, car and church took too much of the space when the woman and her companions should be the focus. I also was not happy about how the companions were so stuck behind and not visible. I am really gratified to see that you and some others enjoy it. Thanks, my friend.
