dberryhill 3 Posted November 30, 2007 How the road led them to the steps of the courthouse in a small East Tennessee town. Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,961 Posted December 1, 2007 Thanks for telling me before you snapped this one off so I could turn away from the camera. Seriously Doug, I don't know if I could've made this shot. It looks like you didn't make friends with those 3 guys on the left. This is a good documentary shot. Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted December 1, 2007 They weren't exactly in a position to do me harm, so I didn't feel threatened. I wanted to get close enough to humanize them, which is something we don't like to do. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted December 2, 2007 I guess it would be pretty safe to say the future is not so bright for these guys. Perhaps the trashcan in the background is symbolic. On a purely technical standpoint, I find myself wondering if this wouldn't be better as a b & w. Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted December 2, 2007 Dave, my guess is that you're right. Their future is not likely to be promising. I wonder who failed them, if anyone. I don't think any of their mothers thought that her son would grow up to be wearing shackles and a striped suit, and standing in the morning sun in front of a courthouse. You're also probably right about a conversion to black and white. That might very well be better. Link to comment
nickmeertens 0 Posted December 10, 2007 And I thought those suits only excisted in the movies! Link to comment
wingell 0 Posted April 30, 2008 Hey, Doug, I guess this puts new meaning in the word "capture." These guys weren't going to be ducking and running, but this shot nevertheless is a very cool capture. The color doesn't bother me--I think it adds to the wistful nature of the image. The more I look at it, the more devastating it becomes. Well done!...Bill 7/7 Link to comment
