A new gadget, huh?

One of my first shoots with a modern medium format using color film (diapositive). Hand held, natural light, indoors. Scanning was made using a drum scanner. Digital post processing and B&W conversion was done using Lightzone and Gimp.

He was asking about my camera while I was trying to take pictures of

him with his past, which includes photographs of his loved ones, at

the background. Would be happy to receive your C&C on composition,

lighting and post processing. Thanks for looking at.

This is great! Good DOF, crisp detail and texture of his skin. You were able to catch a moment here you might not have gotten if you'd have been trying to pose him. Contrast is good for me, and I like having him there with all those family photos on the mantle. Nicely done!

I love the expression in his face and eyes, and the line-up of photographs in the background is very effective. His long sloping left arm forms a nice diagonal that keeps the length of the photo in check and adds to the dynamic of the image. The tones and contrast are wonderful in the image, and the dof is perfect for the photos in the background. His face really grabs the viewer's attention. Very well done!

A very rich portrait, Bulent. I think it's excellent the way the background is full of photographs from his past, and the expression on his face and the direct eye contact with the viewer show him very much in the "here and now" of the portrait. Very well-done. On a strictly technical note, I do wish the viewpoint was slightly lower, so that his eyes were a little more above the centerline of the composition.

You are definitely right. A lower position would be better. Thank you for your comment and for your suggestion.

Well.  You asked  for it. IMHO.  I  would  get lower  tho avoid  the  background images/pictures   shoving at the  top of  the  persons  head. Otherwise the  composition is good,  the  lighting is  good,  and  it  is a nice  natural portrait  from a interesting and nice person.  Only the  picture on top of  the head  is  disturbing.

Cheers;  Bela
