CharlesBecker-Toronto 5 Posted November 10, 2007 I really like the setting, the colour, and the frame; the only suggestion I have would be to reduce the size of the frames border-I think it's a little too big and distracting. regards, cb :-) Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted November 10, 2007 Sometimes I do get carried away with framing and perhaps this is one of those times. Thanks for taking the time to comment and offering advice, I appreciate it. Warm regards. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted November 10, 2007 Linda, I like it as well, well composed with nice complementary colors. I agree with the previous comment about the frame. I think that if you want a frame at all ,the two thin frames will do the work, and will not compete with the nice image.I was using frames before too, and stopped, letting the image to do the work, and this one surly is doing it. jeffl7 0 Posted November 10, 2007 What a charming little scene. I like the cheery orange of the house and fence. I also like the string of disparate fences, looking like they're holding hands. Link to comment

ldavidson 4 Posted November 12, 2007 Pnina, Thank you. I took another look at your portfolio and I have to say that I really like the minimal frame you choose to use. You have a good point about the competion between the large matt and the image. Thank you so much for the advice, I appreciate you taking the time. Warm Regards. Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted November 12, 2007 Thank you for your kind comments. Jeff, I knew I liked the missmatched fence, now I know why. I hadn't thought of them holding hands. Thanks for that, very much appreciated. Link to comment

snapshooter 0 Posted November 18, 2007 Really liked this , Linda. I also agree with some of the comments. The problem for me with the frame is twofold. The red/orange stripe is not subtle enough, and separates the frame/colour from the image, giving the frame too much prominence. Big borders are fine but need to be worked into the sibject/scene colours. I tried it with a deep brown to blend more with the dark areas of the woods and the roofline of the cabin. For me, the larger frame totally encloses the cabin, fences, woods, and my eyes have no inclination to go anywhere else. I first tried the inner stroke at 2 pixels and it was still too prominent, and went to one. However, from your perspective, the larger frame does work quite well with that colour. Might be even better with a shade more closely matching the grasses. I think it's the size of the Orange stripe that causes the distinct separation. It's a matching colour for the rail fence and would probably work fine as an almost imperceptible separation point, and at the same time, expand the picture area into the frame without any conflict. Almost forgot. That white blob just to the left of the lower roof line is probably an unnecessary distraction, and easily removed. Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted November 19, 2007 Thanks Buddy! I have been rethinking my aproach to framing. This style has been an extension of my other hobby, watercolour painting. I like the look of a large matte and a co-oridinating inner matte. I have had quite a few people tell me to tone down the frame, let the picture speak for itself. Once again I appreciate hearing your thoughts and I appreciate you taking the time to alter my images. All the best. Linda Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted March 17, 2008 Ditto on frame. Aside from that, however, it's a wonderful tranquil pastoral scene that is so pleasant. I do think it funny that the cumulative effect of all those fences, gates, and structure in front of the cabin is to say, "Stay away." Wonderful colors. Link to comment
