I love this photo because it first pulls you in with interesting graphics and composition. It is a clever use of positive and negative space. and then as your brain adapts the graphics become organic and recognition of the water and stone become overlaid with the graphis of it all.

Very original landscape, interesting motif. High dynamic range, blown highlights, but not a major issue IMO. Maybe I would crop a bit from the bottom

Back to Adentro. To answer your request concerning this picture:

- 4 does not mean bad but acceptable. When you rate other people?s pictures, your mean value is 4.8, mine is higher: 5.16. The mean rating for my pictures is 4.6 (i.e. lower than yours). Personally, I?ve got 79 ?3? and 151 ?4? over 466 rates. This part of the game...

- As far as your picture is concerned, I am not an expert, therefore I may be wrong, you should not, therefore, pay too much attention to my ratings. All I can say, however, is that the picture, as I see it on my screen, is made of more that 50% opaque black with no details. One needs to reduce significantly the contrast to see some details. Furthermore, I find that the composition is not ideal because it is too much centered. I enclose a different crop for you to see what I mean.

- Generally speaking, rating is (normally) anonymous precisely to avoid endless discussions. I prefer occasionally to be honest...?even if I do not give a 7.

Hope you do not mind my direct answer. Regards. Yves P.

Thank you for explaining and no, I'm not in any way offended or disappointed by your rating. It's your rating and based on your considered opinion as you left it directly and not anonymously. I appreciate that and your commentary. I don't have to agree, but I do appreciate it. As for the crop, I find that without the dark at both the top and bottom, one is not "drawn into" the cave. JMHO :)

I think this might be your strongest picture, minimalist yet not boring, very contrasty but with subtle nuances on the upper left wall and the lower left water. The light is fantastic and so is the shade. I love it. (Honestly)

I rated this photo 6/6 some time ago but never left a comment. I agree with Pascal that this is one of your stronger images and I like it. Virgin Gorda is on my list of places to visit and hopefully I will be able to experience it in the near future. I will photograph this location but I don't think that I will be able to do much differently because it is a popular place for photographers. That light reflection on the water is an important element in the photo as it leads your eye to another part of the image which is almost phallic in nature. Enough said!

Thank you for taking the time to comment/critique. Every bit of guidance you provide is much appreciated. Every time I pick up my camera I think of a suggestion the collective "you" has offered and am thankful for the pool of knowledge and expertise that I'm exposed to on the PhotoNet site. Cheers -

Albera, very strong original composition, unusual triangled form, very dramatic light. saw your work in the "no word" forum, thought coming to look, but you were faster... ;-)).Nice to meet you and your work! Thanks for your nice comment. (I have explained it there.)

Thanks for clearing that up. Since there aren't any trips to the island in my immediate future, we might be waiting a while on the rest of the alphabet :( Cheers -

When I saw the thumb print of this picture, I knew you were up to something good. But when I tried to see the picture in full on my screen I had to scroll. So to appreciate it fully (no pun intended), I had to copy it to Photoshop and then view it on my screen. Please do us a favor: size pictures for this forum to be no larger than 750px horizontal and 450px vertical. That way we can enjoy them without additional contortions.

Thanks for your rating and comment. This photo was uploaded in September, before I realized there was a scrolling problem with vertical presentations. It's all better now - they all fit without scrolling. Wish I could replace this one and not lose all the comments but that doesn't seem to be a photo.net capability. Cheers -

I, too, was immediately drawn to this image. I like it very much, just the way it is. Thank you for the kind comment on my portfolio. I like the "no words" forum as it gives me a chance to see others work and to post my own in a less "judgemental" context than the critique forum or elsewhere.

Keep up the good work!
