rossy topalova 0 Posted September 20, 2007 very good you produce the moving like a crazy dream or lake a tale from childhood. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 21, 2007 No effect. The damn thing was moving(endlessly). I didn't have to do anything. Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted September 21, 2007 Dave, I didn't mean a ps effect; I simply meant the way you captured the motion. Link to comment
alight 0 Posted September 21, 2007 an interesting shot, reminding I of your photo of the bumper cars. Is that rider a V8 princess? Cheers, Micheal Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted September 21, 2007 Beautiful impression. I can almost hear the organ music. Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 50,281 Posted September 21, 2007 I think Rossy is right, in that it's a very dream-like image. Reminds me of something I'd seen on "Twilight Zone" only in color. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 21, 2007 Joe: I was just kind of being a smartass. I apologize as it didn't come off well. Micheal: She's me only granddaughter, and she won't touch V8. Guess she wasn't brought up right. On an aside, we went to a concert tonight with April Vertch. She lives in Ontario I believe. Ever heard of her? She was really good. Jeff: I think most of us have fond memories as kids of going on the merry-go-round. When you are three or four, the horses are big and wild. The music and lights exciting, and the memories indelibly etched into our psyches. Mike: Yes, it is dreamlike, but to me it is the dream of youth or lost childhood. How precious for her to be living these things, that can only be memories for us older folk. Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I wish the five anonymous raters that came up with the 3/3 could let me know what it was that was the problem. Link to comment
alight 0 Posted September 21, 2007 well, I know April. The last time I saw her was just before May. Ha ha ha. Nope, sorry dude, don't know that artist. I know Shania Twain, though, she's from Ontario - from the town of Timmins, which I visited during my vacation. You must know Shania Twain, right? If you don't, then I prescribe one extra botttle of V8 a day to you. Cheers, Micheal Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted September 21, 2007 Next time pay a buck, ride the carousel standing up and show us the background being blurred. 8~)# Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 21, 2007 Hey, I didn't have to pay. Kids this size can't go alone, so I had to go! Damn hard to take a picture when some damn machine is trying to use centrifugal force to eject you. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted September 21, 2007 Very good exposure, light and colors,David. Like it a lot. Link to comment
Emmanuel Enyinwa 0 Posted September 21, 2007 I think sometimes we overanalyze things, looking tirelessly for "meaning" when sometimes something is exactly what it seems. This is an image that communicates without the need for filters or effects, an immediate something that we all recognize. As the late Justice Brennan said in Miller v. California, "we'll know it when we see it". There is an almost rapturous expression on the girl's face that recalls my son's expression when we play at home. A treasure, David, and one of your absolute best. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 21, 2007 Thanks. So well said, as is your wont. Of course I'm heavily invested in this one emotionally, so I cannot be very impartial in evaluating it. But, I have to tell you that the rapt look of joy on her face just makes my heart swell. It may not be the most interesting to most of the world, or the most technically competent, but I, too, feel it is one of my best. That doesn't mean I expect everyone else to feel that way. Jack McRitchie 150 Posted September 22, 2007 With the motion blur, this captures the nostalgic (for us oldtimers) feeling of the carousel, whirling by on a bounding steed and reaching for the brass ring (I wonder if the current generation has ever heard that phrase and knows its origin). Red is the perfect color (and such a red!) for the young lady's dress. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 22, 2007 Surely they do not have a clue of the brass ring. At four the simple pleasures still intrigue. I'm afraid it won't be long until it will take much more to keep her and her generation interested and enthusiastic. Link to comment
laurentlacoste 0 Posted October 21, 2007 Beautiful, David, and a little different from your usual style as far as color and processing are concerned. Those purely lit colors in the background are a sight to see, and that touch of complementary green against the red of the little girl's dress and the pale blue around are gorgeous. Silly me, who is talking color and composition when I should be talking feelings and emotions. There's been quite a revival for merry-go-rounds over the last few years here in Europe and a lot of cities have their own downtown attraction in pedestrian areas. It creates a nice mood and I've had the chance to take my kids numerous times to the merry-go-round while shopping downtown in my hometown. David, it's been a pleasure looking at this beautiful shot as well as reading everybody's comments on this one. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 21, 2007 Thanks. Not that it is as good as any of yours, but this one kind of reminds me of some of your images. Link to comment
laurentlacoste 0 Posted October 22, 2007 David, thank you very much for the nod. I take it all to heart. Concerning the quality of your work, you sure are too modest. As to the quality of mine, what's so good in my stuff that would be better than yours? David, you're too good to you're friends! Link to comment
