alberta_pizzolato 21 Posted August 15, 2007 When you live in a waterfront community, wildlife often turns up where you least expect it. Link to comment
dirtlawyer 0 Posted September 20, 2007 Alberta, I think it's probably a red tailed hawk. Get yourself a copy of the Peterson Field Guide, Eastern Birds. It's a big help. Maybe we'll run into one another at Lowry Park. Link to comment
alberta_pizzolato 21 Posted September 21, 2007 I use the Audubon guides but thanks for the recommendation. While we have had red shouldered hawk in our neighborhood, I ruled that out because of the coloration at the juncture of the wing and body. On the hawk, that would be solid red at the top, going into the brown/white pattern about midway down and at an angle. Also, the beak was not yellow - at least I don't think it was. The pole's pretty tall and I'm vertically challenged :) See you at the park - when it gets just a bit cooler. I must see and feed the penguins! Cheers - Link to comment
dirtlawyer 0 Posted September 21, 2007 Alberta, I identify ospreys from the head. Please take a look at my animal shots (especially the orang) in my portfolio. All at Lowry. Comments would be welcome. Jerry Link to comment
alberta_pizzolato 21 Posted September 27, 2007 A fellow from Miami posted a bird photo from the Zoo today. I looked in his portfolio and found a pic of a Broad Tailed Hawk: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5500417 Just might be my bird. What do you think? Link to comment
knobby6 1 Posted December 16, 2007 Definitely not osprey or kestrel. With the long tail I would guess a coopers hawk, hard to tell from the one view. Couldn't rule out broadwing though. Link to comment
alberta_pizzolato 21 Posted December 16, 2007 I agree. In the time since I posted this I've looked at hundreds of photos and think this may be a hawk. Can't ask him. May never know :) Cheers - Link to comment
