Jack McRitchie 150 Posted May 21, 2007 Great, David, I like it a lot. Looks like a scene out of Chaplin's "Modern Times". And the tone is like something out of a 1930's Life Magazine. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted May 21, 2007 I was striving for something a little different. I'll admit, that you nailed it better than I ever could have. 1930's Life Mag. It does have that look. Link to comment
alight 0 Posted May 22, 2007 isn't this what Chinese use to launch satellites into space? Cheers, Micheal Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted May 22, 2007 Not sure. I'll check into it and get back to you on it. Link to comment

katzpjs 50 Posted May 24, 2007 I've been trying hard to just wear my new glasses even though the very-near vision on them is not quite right. For this image I had to go get my old glasses and even then I'm not sure if I'm reading "CONTINENTAL GIN CO" on that huge fan. But if this is how gin is produced I'll stick to vodka. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted May 24, 2007 I believe you are reading it right (and writing it right too). I don't stick to anything. Vodka, gin, scotch, red wine. Love 'em all. Even De Santa Ana's Yukon Jack! Link to comment
paprika 0 Posted May 25, 2007 I always liked the way you select up your subjects - great work David ! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 27, 2007 David, you've given this machine a fair amount of austerity. That is an accomplishment. I think it has to do with the great composition as well as the perspective and angle from which you've shot. It's got a nice geometric use of space, which is what attracts me to it. --Fred Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted May 27, 2007 I think you hit the exact word I would use for this. "Austerity" is perfect! I really like the look of it, and as Jack suggested it has that thirties and forties look of Life Magazine. The composition I don't think I can take too much credit for. It was just a natural, and access was somewhat limited, and, therefore, so were the compositional options. Thanks for giving me the credit. I know from your images that you are a compositional master. Cheers Link to comment
laurentlacoste 0 Posted June 12, 2007 I agree with the other posters. A quite impressive picture. You couldn't choose a more perfect treatment for the subject matter. Those tones you've found evoke images from WWII to me, you know those documentary movies about industrial war in B&W. Or maybe representations from H.G Wells' novel, "The Time Machine" ( did you see the 1962 movie with Rod Taylor? You know, when those dreadful sirens go and the people of the river silently move to the cave like cattle to be imprisoned and eaten by the subterranean Morlocks! I had nightmares because of that as a child, man!)There's something very frightening and powerful in what you achieved here, something that goes deep into what lays in the "inconscient collectif". (Excuse the lengthy comment on this one David). Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted June 13, 2007 Thanks. I have not seen the movie you mention, but I shall try to. As for the lengthy comment, I'm honored that you would devote that much time to one of my humble images. Cheers Link to comment
