this is a nice image. The well visible wood fibers are contasting the rust spots in a pleasing way. I also like the alternating light (very bright) and darker areas. I wish the loop would be in focus though. I think its out-of-focusness is taking away from the image. Of course, the juiciest part is the vision of the photographer, which is great. So raise the glass of V8 and take a few gulps. Cheers, Micheal

I had the V8 this morning. I'm going to pour myself a glass of Scotch on the rocks right now. I know you do not approve.

On the subject of the image, you are right that the hook should have been completely in focus. Just didn't pay close enough attention I guess.

I am totally blown away by the detail in all the wonderful textures and the lush colors in the rust......what did you do while you were in Big Sky country, take "Creative Pills", I personally think the Montana images are some of your finest!? And of course I'd like to have seen the "loop" in sharper detail but it's such a pleasing composition that I can overlook that little imperfection.

Thanks. Without a doubt, the best stuff I've done lately is from Montana and from the trip back. I hope that the fact that you commented on this image means you are going to be around some more.

David, I'm on the run...as usual. No "law" involved, but just life propelling me forward at a high rate of speed...usually without my permission or willingness. You and Fred Goldsmith are two photographers that have been left out of my comments/critiques/ratings of late...and it's been subconsciously on purpose. I respect both of your work so much, and I so highly esteem not only your photography but your balanced perspective when talking with your peers that I don't like to make brief comments that reflect a lack of effort...because you deserve more. That being said, tonight I'll be lesiurely taking my time to browse your portfolio and get caught up on what you've been up to! Had to take the time to comment on this one before I go cut my grass :) I love metal...I love wood, and the two of them together is even better, so this one grabbed me at once. To state the obvious...the incredible capture of the fine grain, not only the texure but the colors makes a big smile come to my face. This is the kind of shot I aspire to take...

Thanks so much. Your praise 9and criticism too) means a lot to me, because I really like and respect your work. I do feel that you have done many images that are better than this one but I look forward to hearing some straight forward comments from you when you get time. Don't worry about hurting my feelings.
