The brother of the President ran this gas station. He was outspoken

and often embarrassing. The press loved him.

He was an avid beer drinker and introduced "Billy Beer". It met with a

well deserved early demise.

Please don't remind us Doug. If I never recalled Billy Beer, the village idiot who was the inspiration for it, or his entire idiot family, it would be too soon!

I drank no more than half a can of it. It was the worst gawdawful stuff in a can since 7-11 brand beer.

Ok, I wondered how it would look. I hope you don't mind Doug but I played with your photo a little. Here is a version in sepia.

7-11 Beer. I thought I'd tried all the bad brands. You've expanded my horizons!

Billy sure didn't do his brother any favors. But I have a great deal of respect for Jimmy, particularly regarding his efforts to promote world peace.

I'm honored that you would take the time to work with my picture. And I very much like your version. I'm usually inclined to favor black and white, but just didn't here for some reason. As goofy as it sounds, I think my memory of this place is in color. It was one of those days where it was raining, but every now and then the afternoon sun would come out and give everything a glow.

Thanks again.

I'm surprised that a national historic site like this would be in such ill repair, although, based on the new looking wood, there may be some sprucing up going on. I'm not sure how I feel about this, but I think if I had been there, I would have taken several images as you did, and, then, gone over and pulled that green waste tub out of the photo. That way I could decide later if it looked better without it.

I too, very much admire Jimmy Carter for what he has done since leaving office. He is probably the last truly honest politician to have inhabited the White House. I'm convinced his brand of honesty in politics, while perhaps naive in this day and age, would serve our country a lot better than the current crop on both sides of the aisle. Now I've got my politicking in for the day.

I was a bit stunned that this was just sitting there, and except for the fallen pump cover and the caution tape, looked as if it had only closed down at the end of the day. Even though this is on the main highway through town, there was no one around, in stark contrast to the years the media descended on this place in a feeding frenzy.

I gave no thought to moving anything. I wanted it just as it was.

The President's home is down the street. It does have a security fence and Secret Service guards.

It has seemed strange to me that an American who has worked so tirelessly for peace, and has won the Nobel Peace Prize, is so little appreciated in his own country.

But there is much that I don't understand.
