David, I love this picture. The sparse textures of the gnarled wood contrast nicely with the more saturated lime green trailer. 'Course, both of them are knee deep in the snow, so compositional niceties, I will venture boldly out on that proverbial limb, are probably buried a foot deeper in that great totem pole of life as we speak.

I second the comments above. Though I'm not sure about the two bushes in the upper left corner. They give the photo a feeling of depth, but I'm not sure this type of photo needs it. Cheers, Micheal

Thanks for the view. I'll throw this one out for anyone who wants to field it. Would the image be better if about half of the shed wall were cropped out? I personally really like the green trailer against the nearly detailess snow and the warmth of the wood. But might the starkness be enhanced with a bit less wood?

I have to say that one of the things that attracted me to this was those two little forlorn bushes out there in the distance. I felt that with no detail in the snow, they added a sense of needed depth. However, I can see it both ways. I think that the only problem could be that if you take them out, and with such little detail in the snow, it could look like I just yanked the background in an effort to make a more graphic image. Don't know, but I've got a glass of V8 juice in front of me, and I'll drink it and think about it. Cheers

OK, OK, I had a gulp of V8, as well, and I can see your point. It's a good point. Cheers, Micheal

All this V8 talk is turning my stomach. For the record, I never liked V8. I tasted it once and it sent shivers down my body. As to the two brushes, I think they're necessary, unless it's just the green trailer in the snow, but with the wood in the picture, it balances the composition. Cheers!

Thanks guys. Emmanuel, you must understand that my friend Micheal is a V8 fanatic. I'm just a casual drinker of the substance myself. It's probably one of the more healthful things I ingest.

I appreciate the comments you both have made, because it keeps my mind open to the possibilities.

I feel a bit different then the others. I love the idea of the focus on the green trailer, but I feel the snow seems to be a tad overexposed and has no detail. I also agree that the 2 bushes seem out of place. Plus the letf third of the pic is all white. I might suggest that an angle from the front of the trailer towards the corner of the barn would better fill the compsition. A bit too white for me.

I added a good dose of tequila into the V8 and it is much better, but what is this talk about bushes? Bushes!?! What bushes? I think the image is a typical David Meyer's and I like it!

Now... where is my weed whacker?

You are, of course correct in saying the snow is over esposed. While some may be bothered by it, I find it kind of lends a graphical quality to the image, but I'm probably just trying to cover my ineptitude. I certainly considered cropping out the bushes, and reducing the detailess snow, but decided to go with what you see. I do appreciate your point of view and your taking the time to comment.

Be careful with the V8.

Thanks for the comment. If it had been you, it probably would have been taken from about a foot away with the superwide and the bushes would have been history. I'll drink to that (but Merlot tonight).

Well sometimes it's all about the ratings....with the bushes it's a 5/5 for me, without the bushes it would be a 6/6 and without the bushes and a tiny bit of detail in the snow it would be a 7/7. Compositionally, with the juxaposition of the two objects, I think it's perfect; and the textures and great colors of the two disparate items are wonderfully abstact....oh, and the icing on the cake is that tiny bit of "stuff" peeking out of the snow next to the corner of the building. This is definitely my kinda image, minimalism at it's best! I can't think of a single thing I could add to V8 to make it palatable.

Nice to hear your voice again, even if I do not totally concur with what you say. That being the case, I am always eager to hear your thoughts. I can't help it, I'm just enough of a rebel that I like the two little distracting bushes playing games with the viewer's eyes. As for detail in the snow, I have no plea except guilty as charged.

I'm waiting for some new posts from your end. Cheers

I see it that more detail in the snow would take eyes away from the great detail in the trailer and in the boards. I see it that the snow is like a mask that covers the noise, so the eyes can rest on the actual subject itself.

The more I'm looking at this photo the more I like the bushes. They are kinda teasing out there. As for you V8 un-fans, there is Tropicana Veggies Original juice that has a completely different taste and is a tad thicker. I love drinking it, as well. So here is to you and your good health...gulp, gulp, gulp. By the way, do you know that the word "tequila" orginally refered to something completely different? Long time ago, there was this Mexican guy and when he went to work his wife, Quila, nagged him to the ground to take a bottle of V8 juice with him to drink it, as it was good for him (he didn't like the taste). His wife was smart and so she sent the servant to this guy's work to check if he actually drank the liquid. This guy always called in exasperation, "Tell Quila that I drank it, for goodness' sake!" From that "Tell Quila.." became "tequila". It's also possible (but difficult to verify) that he left the bottle of V8 stand in the hot Mexican sun for the whole day and it fermented... (in either case, that's not the recommended use of V8 or any liquid). Cheers, Micheal
