Pretty cool. I like it. Composition is excellent, and the processing is very well done. I think if I were to make any criticism, that from a purely light/dark standpoint, it has a slight tendency to be a bit side heavy, with the darkness of the bird being a little too overpowering. What if you lightend up on the opacity of that bird?

Kim,

I like it. As mentioned the bird dominates the scene, you might back off the solid black a bit. I really like the touch of color, maybe just a touch of color on a spot in the water.

Otherwise super job.

Ilike what you did with this photo. If I have a suggestion is, maybe, to lighten up the bird a bit ( more white in it). Other than this, excellent job and great effect.

I prefer the pelican in color as you originally posted it...the little splash of color really draws you in...the b&w seems a little flat to me. As for the "heaviness" of the pelican in the forefront, I actually like that...it puts him right there in front of you and leaves the rest in the back...I guess I'm saying it adds more depth because he seems more solid...he's more real...he's right there in front of you. Does that make sense? Anyway, I like this composite. Very nice idea.

Did one more version, leaving the orange in the beak, but lightening the pelican somewhat. I think I like it best; the orange in the beak balances the little splash of color in the boat. Comments on all three versions welcomed!

The latest version is the best. Assuming that you brought the pelican in as a layer, I would consider just toning down the opacity a little bit more. That's not to say it isn't darn good the way it is.

Now that I see the third version, I think it's a wonderful compromise...lightened a bit, kept some color, kept the depth. Great job! :)

I printed out the last image and have it framed in a barnwood frame - looks pretty cool. It's off to a gallery today. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

I was going to agree with Sondra until you did the last version, excellent!

And may I add, a much better use of the shrimp boat than in your Destruction series.
