seven 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Good compositional line on left to right horizontal; grabs the attention. Lack of yellows/ reds introduces a surreal tone to the scene - dreamlike. Link to comment
sondra kick 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Since there is so little color in this image, I thought it might look good as a b/w. Hope you don't mind another version. Cheers, Sondra Link to comment
jennifercatron 9 Posted July 4, 2005 Love this. Love the desaturation here. Im a sucker for undersaturation, but the composition would have gotten me anyway. Great job. Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted July 5, 2005 The composition here is outstanding. I'll vote for a completely unsaturated version, such as provided by Sondra Kicklighter -- partial desaturation always seems a little gimmicky, unnatural and detracts just a little from what is an outstanding photo. blago 0 Posted July 5, 2005 It was taken around 3 PM (?) and the light is a little harsh. Minus 2 or 3 f-stops could give such a result. The photos in a strong sunlight are always tricky but here the undersaturation creates some mood that nicely complements the well built composition. BTW, wouldn't the composition be even better if the bush on the right was cropped out ? Regards. Blago Link to comment
robidooo 0 Posted July 5, 2005 Very pleasing composition. I like a lot the layered vision that is given to me here. Maybe it could have a little more vivid colors, but it would also give a different photo. Still, I would like to see it with more bright colors. This little boy really feel relaxed while the little girl really looks energic. Nice contrast on this! Link to comment
labuenaluz 0 Posted July 5, 2005 Agree w/ previous comments, outstanding composition as it is, B&W and color versions just play different, but still work excellently both of them, boy in foreground and girl in backgrnd with that cloud, apart from overall scene, is what makes it for me, GREAT! robertbrown 1 Posted July 6, 2005 Terrific composition, but the monochrome version is much better than the original. Link to comment
bille 0 Posted July 7, 2005 Seven, Sondra, Jennifer, John, Blagoy, Stephane, Ferrando, Sufyan, Robert, Mehmet, and Natasha, Thanks very much for your nice and helpful feedback. I really appreciate it. I too like Sondra's fine B/W conversion. To me both versions have their merit. Cheers, Michael Link to comment

pmj 6 Posted November 21, 2005 This image has been selected for discussion. It is not necessarily the "best" picture the Elves have seen this week, nor is it a contest. It is simply an image that the Elves found interesting and worthy of discussion. Discussion of photo.net policy, including the choice of Photograph of the Week should not take place here, but in the Site Feedback forum. When including images, please make sure they are relevant to the discussion, not more than 511 pixels wide, sufficiently compressed and make sure to enter a caption when uploading. paul tanswell 0 Posted November 21, 2005 Nothing to add except another bit of praise, I love the drama of this pic and top marks for composition. I too think a full colour or full B+W would be better....to me, it screams PHOTOSHOP! too loudly in this semi-desaturated state. Link to comment
blowingsky 0 Posted November 21, 2005 Strong composition and the elements within have the strength of a narrative. When I first glanced at this picture, I thought the boy might have been imported into the scene via Photoshop. In looking carefully, what gave me the impression was that the shadows on the right side of the boy's face seems lighter than it should be in such a harsh light. I'm not saying I think the boy is imported, I'm sure he isn't, I'm just saying my first impression included an unreality about the scene. If there is anything that is instinctive in a viewer it might well be their awareness of inconsistences of light. Link to comment
malcolmdwyer 0 Posted November 21, 2005 I love the contrasting scales between the boy, the girl, and the castle. I find myself wanting to put the girl on the same plane as the castle in the background. That makes her a giant, even though the boy in the foreground is "normal" sized and much larger in the picture. She's stomping around back there, and might just come over and squish him! jo7hs2 0 Posted November 21, 2005 I concer with Malcom (above), the size of the little girl compared with the castle really does it for me, I like a picture that makes me laugh a little. Link to comment
matthew_s._schwartz 0 Posted November 21, 2005 I for one like the desaturated look... It really adds to the dreamlike quality of the scene. There is clearly bright sun beating down on the children, and the desaturation echoes what sometimes happens when the sun washes out a scene. I love it. Link to comment
scott_eaton 0 Posted November 21, 2005 Same as above; either fully desaturate, or full color. Otherwise, great shot! Link to comment
