Great composition, the way the black bottom of the feet sit in front of the white behind, the way the rest of the image leads into that focal point. It so simple and effortless. Very nice.

This image has been selected for discussion. It is not necessarily the "best" picture the Elves have seen this week, nor is it a contest. It is simply an image that the Elves found interesting and worthy of discussion. Discussion of photo.net policy, including the choice of Photograph of the Week should not take place here, but in the Site Feedback forum.

When including images, please make sure they are relevant to the discussion, not more than 511 pixels wide, sufficiently compressed and make sure to enter a caption when uploading.

The idea of a dancer floating in the air is nice. I however do not like the composition, the

background is way too annoying especially the bright spot on the upper left. The bottom of

the image is also too dark and doesn't add anything to the image. A less muddy, dark floor

would probably have shown some nice reflection.

This is just my opinion. Is the digital technology ready to handle that kind of a very contrasty

image? Film might have allowed a more balanced and softer photograph.

Very nice image. the overexposed part of the image does not help but it is a minor criticism if we consider all the nice elements of the image. Like the persective which is very nice and original, the idea as well which is wonderful and the tones, contrast and grain that suit perfectly the mood imposed by the image. It is one of the images that to really see if i like it or not I have to see a print.

I agree with some of what Georges is saying about the technical aspects, but there are some interesting aspects to the composition. For example, the light projecting from the toes toward the window is well done. Though almost completely black, and not pretty, the large dark bottom area in the right is needed to emphasize the elevation from the floor. The darkness of the photo and the lack of tonality (hard to judge on my LCD) doesn't seem be appropriate for the lightness we often associate with such a subject. I think a case could be made that this photo speaks of/shows us the countless hours of hard work that goes into practice for the bright hope of a brilliant performance.

Not MY cup o' tea. It looks like a short dancer sitting on a tall bench and the shot taken from beneith. Much too cluttered background. Did I say I didn't like it?

I think it is a really good compostion, the way the jump is captured. But I would say tha picture lives you wanting a little bit more, the background and the high contrast bettween the bottom half and the upper half. In this case I don't if it is a good or bad thing. Anyway, my opinion aside I say 6/6

I like the image, the shadow in foreground gives a nice depth and height to her movement. Seems a little abstract and unusual.

Cheers.

The photo is so busy with various elements that the feet almost seem secondary, not quite floating... more suspended. Spirit of intent = excellent, some experimentation with other backgrounds/perspectives would help the final result. -Greg-

mmm, I think sometimes you don't get what you want, it could result in a intersting photo, not necesarily a nice one, this is the case.

Denis, I'm glad that you have been recognized. I have looked through your portfolio and have been amazed at your work. You once helped me when I posted a question in the digital darkroom about a PS effect, so thank you for sharing your knowledge. About this photo, I wouldn't say this is your best photo, but perhaps the most interesting one. It allows my imagination to wonder, who, what, where, and how. Congrats, you deserve it. ~Will

Actually, it is quite cleverly done. I have simply seen _The Shawshank Redemption_ one time too many, I guess.

Congratulations on getting the PoW, Denis.

I love it! It has a very Holga-like feel to it. The bright background and other so-called flaws that others refer to works fine for me. Those old standards about things always having to be so sharp and clean are just that-OLD. Keep that stuff with the dying dinosaurs of the PPA, this is wonderful.

It's a real attractive image, it's a new and unusual point of view with a great dof. Also the square format like 6x6 and tone adds an atmosphere and a mood that could remember ancient times. In my opinion it's a very attractive shot.
