Giangiorgio Crisponi 461 Posted December 28, 2021 Excellent sharpness of this bird in flight, ciao Giangiorgio Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted December 28, 2021 Grazie mille Giangiorgio! The Canon R5 is faster and probably better in catching birds with eratic flight pattern but with bird like this duck which has a very linear, gradual flight pattern it's not hard to catch with the 7,8 years old Canon 7D Mark II either. vincentoiseau 83 Posted December 29, 2021 Hi TmJ, gorgeous in flight-shot of this Northern shoveler! You may downplay it all you want, but I find the detail simply amazing! Very well done! Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted December 29, 2021 Thanks Vincent! LOL, I am begining to think that I don't need to upgrade at all. As you know, I put the Canon 7D II + Canon EF 500mm F4 aside since I thought I should plan for my od age and downsize to something lighter and that's the Olympus. However, the Canon R5 + RF 100-500mm which is very much about the same weight as the Olympus but with fullsize sensor and that got me thinking. However, for now, I think I will go back and shoot with the Canon 7D Mark II + EF 500mm F4 IS and put Mr Olympus downsizing plan on hold. I always feel very confident in catching most stuff with the 7D II + EF 500mm F4 IS. As for shooting duck (like this), I actually have about 20 shots of this duck (like this) since I have a habit of panning along and shoot in sequence of any bird that I shoot since that's the only way to catch interesting images . I don't feel confident with the Olympus much even though I like Olympus very much. I hope they come out with something that focus better than what they have before I get an R5 or ?? Link to comment
FranzWeber 368 Posted December 29, 2021 Fantastic details of the flying duck. The beak looks like the front of a Japanese Shinkansen train. Best regards, Franz Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted December 30, 2021 Thanks Scott Edwardson! Good to hear from you. I always feel that I've been on this site a long time ... That is till I looked at your profile and found that you had been on this stie since 2002, LOL! ... Now, I feel like a new kid on the block :-) Link to comment
scotedw 44 Posted December 30, 2021 Yes TmJ it’s been 20 years since I purchased my first SLR. I took some community night school photography courses and it was one of the instructors that mentioned photo.net as a resourceful tool. Some of the images on my profile are actually scans from slide film! Should probably cull some images . I did have a bit of a bit of a hiatus when my daughter was born. Now that she’s older I’m back at it every chance I get! Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted December 30, 2021 Ok Scott Edwardson! I've just read your note on my profile page and since you wish for some warmer weather I will send you some warm sunchine from SoCal soon but not now since it's raining cats & dogs at the moment, LOL! Jokes aside, the thought of scanning image remind me how tedious photography was. I remember I used to stay up all night friday night after work (night shift) just to print one color print (I was using a water bath to control temperature then) so that I can have my print for my photography class (once a week) on Saturday morning. I wanted to be a photographer then but my professor called me up and offered me a programming job . Since I like to eat often .. that's the end of my photography carreer. :-) Link to comment
