Giangiorgio Crisponi 477 Posted October 17, 2021 Tm J your recent series showing the behavior of the Grebes in breeding young is gorgeous, ciao Giangiorgio Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted October 17, 2021 Grazie Mille Giangiorgio! Yes, these images are very nice and partly it's because I married Mr Canon 500mm F4 to Ms Olympus along with the 1.4x and the result is a long reach of 1400mm on the Olympus OMD-EM1 Mark II. I have not done this cross breeding type of shot for the last few week and shoot mainly with just the bare (little) Lumix 100-300mm and what that means is I get continuous auto focus (shooting with the Canon lens only give me single auto focus) but since it's a short lens I loose resolution quality in the image because of more profound cropping. Olympus has a new premium lens 150-400mm (that's 300-800mm in fullformat) with a built-in 1.25x extender but it costs $8000 or so. I may end up getting an Olympus 100-400mm which is only about $1000 used. I was shooting this cross breeding setup at 1400mm all handheld, btw. Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted October 20, 2021 Hi TmJ, I can only agree with Giangiorgio; I 've looked at some recent series of yours and really like what I see! This photo shows the care these grebes bestow on their young; I love the light in their eyes and the horizontal composition you chose. Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted October 20, 2021 Thanks Vincent Oiseau! I got lucky that day since this happened when I first got my Olympus OMD-EM1 Mark II and I did not have any 4/3 lenses and was testing it out with my Canon 500mm F4 IS. Being greedy, I even put on a 1.4x (I used a Kipon EF to 4/3 adapter) and that total up to 1400mm. Since I always shoot handheld, that was a handful to control (but I somehow managed). That particular day, this family decided to come close to shore and barely within that 1400mm reach and that's how I got it. I only been bringing my Lumix 100-300mm with the OMD-EM1 Mark II lately but I have no heartache for missing anything since they are now so far from the shore that even a 3000mm won't reach. :-) Link to comment
