Giangiorgio Crisponi 463 Posted July 2, 2021 Cormorants in flight (Phalocrocorax carbo) - For the recent series, blur in flight, with the intention of giving a greater sense of dynamism, today I present this image taken at sunrise, from my window, with cormorants in approach flight. Nikon D500, Sigma Sport 150-600, f / 22, 1/40 sec, ISO 100. Thanks for your comments Link to comment
brucebloy 1 Posted July 2, 2021 Giangioragio -- Love this shot ...especially the soft blur of the wings against the soft edges of the morning sky. Two questions ...what was your mm on your telephoto lens and did you use a tripod?) Link to comment

michaellinder 16,611 Posted July 4, 2021 Giangiorgi, this is a change of pace for you. Usually your bird photos are entirely realistic and representational. In this case, the motions of the birds'wings produce impressions that slightly cross the boundary into surrealism. When I took my first, quick glance of the image, several of the birds seemed to look like bats. To me, this is indescribably brilliant. -- My best always, michael - - Ciao! Link to comment

Giangiorgio Crisponi 463 Posted July 4, 2021 Michael thank you for your careful comment on all aspects of this photo, even to me they gave the impression of being bats, ciao Giangiorgio Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 266 Posted July 4, 2021 The motion blur together with the slight underexposure (or darkening) of the scene of the almost unreal red of the sunrise give a surreal impression, Giangiorgio! Complimenti, amico mio! Ciao! PDE Link to comment

vincentoiseau 83 Posted July 5, 2021 Hi Giangiorgio, it is quite a step from 'classic' bird-in-flight phototos to this theme of dynamism and not particularly an easy one, so I commend you on that! My first thought on seeing these cormorants in flight with blurred wings, was (like Michael's) they looked like bats. But if that is the case, your photo has proven there is a similarity between those two that we normally don't see. I like the colors and your composition. Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
Giangiorgio Crisponi 463 Posted July 6, 2021 Grazie mille Vincent for your very nice and appreciated comment. In fact, at first glance, they really look like bats, but they are cormorants that move from the lagoons to the east of my city, the one in the photo, where they stop to sleep, to those to the west of the city, richer in fish. At dawn they pass right in front of my window. ciao Giangiorgio Link to comment

Pierre Dumas 266 Posted August 21, 2021 Interesting image of cormorants in sunrise with contours of a city buildings in the background, only the cormorants look partly like bets due to the motion blur! Complimenti, amico mio! Ciao! PDE Link to comment
