Eyes bigger than stomach - (Larus michahellis). I photographed this Yellow-legged gull

(Larus Michahellis) trying to swallow this fish, that is too big for its stomach. After several unsuccessful attempts, he decided to eat it in small bites. Nikon D500, Sigma supertele 300-800mm, f / 5.6, 1/2500 sec, ISO 250, Thanks for your comments

This would be a great photo with just gull and reflection. But the big fish takes it over the top....Way over the TOP!!! Has it been published? Would make a great "parting shot" for outdoor magazine or similar.

Fantastic shot, as always, Giangiorgio! Great capture of the action with utmost aesthetic value! I like that there's a reflection of the bird in the water! Complimenti, amico mio! PDE

Hi Giangiorgio,

another wonderful shot that tells a story. The refection is a big extra, as is the gull in the background. The light is spectacular! Kind regards, Vincent

Giangiorgio...With eyes bigger than its beak!I have seen a similar scene with also a gull trying to feast on a Sea Bass....to no avail!Wish I would have had my camera, but I am sure I would have come short of an excellent image as this one.Salutations amicales-Laurent

Giangiorgio, please accept my apology for being the last one to review this image. Not wanting to risk plagiarizing the previous comments, allow me to note that every one of them is spot on. All I'm going to add is that it was the reflection of the bird trying to swallow such a large fish that really grabbed my attention and eye. - - My best always, Michael - - Ciao!
