An allegory, Jack... People sacrifice freedom for safety, only to discover that safety ultimately is imprisonment. By that time it's too late. Interesting geometry is another strong element. It's mostly linear/Euclidean, but watch out for the lesser presence of curvilinear/noneuclidean.

Laurent - There are so many bicycles that it seems perfectly reasonable that there would be an extra seat hanging around but I'll admit it's a bit of a surprise to see it like this. Kamala - thank you, and interesting suggestion about b&W. I'll give it a try. So it seems,Michael. I've been reading a book by Joseph Chilton Pearce. Here's a quote: “We are limited by our agreements on possibility. Agreement is a common exclusion of alternate possibilities. Agreement is the cement of social structure. Two or three gathered together, agreeing on what they are after, may create a subset in which their goals can be achieved, even though folly in the eyes of the world. The world in this case means a set of expectancies agreed upon, a set excluding other possibilities.”

― Joseph Chilton Pearce, The Crack in the Cosmic Egg: New Constructs of Mind and Reality. The cages are our culture, our social structure, and we - for better or worse - are the bicycle seat.

This is odd....though not so much. I had just opened PN for my nightly leisure time and started browsing. This cage, the strange object under arrest and the seemingly unnecessary security, immediately drew me in....only to find it was yours. Thus reinforcing the start of my comment. I cannot understand how or why it was the very first image I opened, but so very glad I did and found it was your usual riddle: what is the object (obviously not a bird) in jail so carefully guarded, and why? Who jailed that "something"? So my friend, more than the superb photograph in and by itself, is the portrait, product of a unique, special and highly personal POV. DG

Thanks, Daniel. I think the highest state you can achieve is one of wonder. We think some day we're going to find the key, the great answer. I think we have to accept that the world is a wonderful place beyond explanation. The more we realize that, the more wonderful it becomes. This is not mankind's way, though; we seek answers and explanations for everything and think that's the path that will lead us out of the mess we have made of our world.

Strong picture, Jack! In the current situation, other meanings are added to this image! Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana
