Perfect street shot, Jack! Wonderful capture of this scene at the crossroads with two such different pairs of passersby! I like it, Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana

He's friendly, and she doesn't appear to be. Great timing catching this, makes the image more interesting, the couple coming up the side are welcome additions and do not distract from the composition. Such interesting people in your part of the world.................BR, Holger

Tatiana, Holger - Thanks for the comments; I certainly appreciate it when people take the time to write something....anything. As for your observation about their reactions, Holger, you're right on the money. After I took the picture, I went over to show them the shot. He was amused and thanked me; she was decidedly cooler. Such is the life of a street photographer.

Hi Jack,

this is a timeless photo; it does have a place and time, but it's above all a document of human relationships and interactions that could be anywhere. The expressions on the faces of this couple are food for psychologists. I like the composition of this image, with the strict looking woman in the center, the man touching a diagonal line and the other couple on the left as a social backdrop. The coloring is very subtle. Kind regards, Vincent

Roldao, Vincent - Thank you for your comments, much appreciated. Vincent - when I joined this site 14 years ago, I was a relative neophyte at photography and not at all sure whether my pictures would measure up to the outstanding work I found here. The support and kind words I received from other photographers on PN was both unexpected and tremendously encouraging and contributed to the growth of my abilities. Back then, PN was a lively community, a round table of talented member who always were generous with their opinions, commentary and friendly critiques. I developed friendships with many of these people, some of which endure to this day. Your well thought out comments remind me of what was, at that time, commonplace but which in the intervening years have become rarer and rarer. The spirit of community which was the hallmark of PN in those days has largely been replaced by a feeling of distance and separateness which I think mirrors the drift of the world at large. Still I will always value those individuals who give more than they receive and contribute in great measure to the life of the community. People like you. Many thanks and best regards, Jack

Jack,

Without a doubt the lady looks so dominant.

Taking such pictures(besides being a good photographer) demand a lot of social skills. Not everybody (not every photographer) has them. Sometimes nothing helps(wrong country, wrong city, wrong time etc...).

The photo looks very natural and authentic.

...And just like Vincent said - ('food for psychologists') photo would be so helpful in creating psychological portrait (portraits) of the couple.

Really well done!,

ZT,

Hi Jack: O genki desuka? You must have said something nice, or exhibit a very friendly attitude, very gently accepted by the gentleman. A camera pointing at a stranger is always menacing and, in my experience, an unwanted approach. This somehow points to your affability. What strikes me about this photograph is that you are inviting the viewer to interpret the minds of the subjects....one likes it, the other indifferent and slightly challenging. You have a special knack of fully transforming an ordinary street photograph into a world of its own, with as many meanings as viewers....the fortunate ones to follow your indefatigable photographic work. A silent but deep bow of respect. DG

They agreed to have the photo taken? I like the perfect clarity and sharpness of your image. Lovely couple.
