Andrew, I kind of figured that. I can say I'm going to have to plan a trip to the desert some time. All of the shots you've posted the past day or so are just phenomenal, great colors and such varied scenes. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Tony, Death Valley has one of the best conditions for night photography with very little light pollution. End of April and May are best for viewing Milky Way. It's position even higher above horizon in June-August but it's too hot !

You also need to consider moon so there are not many dates left in the month with sky perfectly dark.

Living on the East coast, light pollution is a big factor with the night sky. We had hoped to travel to Montana later this year to visit family, but it looks like a job transfer will get in the way of that. Darn responsibilities!
