michaellinder 16,613 Posted October 29, 2017 The sculpture reminds me of cairns typically built by aboriginal people, usually for the purpose of markers or to indicate that supplies are stored underneath. In this instance, I'm pretty sure it's a marker; it tells us that it goes with 526. More interestingly, the yellow truck bed seems to pointing to something, which remains a mystery. Therein lies the strength of this image, in my opinion. It's not just another photo of quirky stuff. Link to comment
Supriyo 6,008 Posted October 30, 2017 Thanks Michael for noticing the details so closely. This was taken during on our our family vacations. It was a very small community in rural CA. There were some other interesting scenes in the neighborhood, like a partially burnt down house, some small huts in the fields, an animal skull hanging from a tree trunk, and a stuffed toy resting on a fire sign. All those pictures can be found somewhere in my portfolio. As for this sculpture thing, if you see the writing on the truck, it says "Iv been over the grapevine". Perhaps it was erected on ground which had a grapevine before, thats my guess. A memorial to a grapevine. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,613 Posted October 31, 2017 I'll have to check out that sign. Don't you love Americana? Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 31, 2017 Just my sort of picture, those odd little moments that defy eludel explanation (though certainly one may exist) and return you -albeit briefly - to the world of your childhood when everything was new and nothing boringly commonplace. Keep looking and sharing your finds with us, Supriyo. I should also add that besides the subject matter itself, the picture is beautifully organized and produced. Link to comment
Supriyo 6,008 Posted November 7, 2017 Thank you, Jack. Your works have taught me a great deal about 'looking'. Link to comment
