I asked the Italian concierge at the hotel we were staying if he ever got used to the view outside. He responded, “Never.” To experience the result of centuries of peoples determined to live and build a city on water and for that city to express an architectural brilliance of multiple cultures (Gothic, Byzantine and Moorish) is kind of unreal - like a dream.
