Although it was the 39% sign that caught my attention in this long

standing worn strip of shops in the Inglewood/Madison area of

Nashville, it was the contrast that made it a subject for art. But I

am still wondering about the sign: 39% women/men. Comments and

critique are much appreciated.

I like the painterly effect, I have tried it on a couple of my images but it's not always about me Wayne - We can image the most common scene and with this effect just heightens it to a whole new level.

A wonderful tour de force with a judiciously applied effect which ties everything into an impressionistic whole. It kind of reminds me of the work of Saul Leiter. The man at the lower right crucially balances the relative brightness of the left side of the image. This doesn't work without his presence It's an excellent picture and deserves a place in my favorites

Tony,

Many thanks.  I happened to be in my "painter mind" when I grabbed this scene while driving. I was more interested in the areas of light and dark than what the scene was.  In a way it had started as a painting.

Jack,

Many thanks.  I was surprised at how much was already balanced (elements, light and dark) when I saw this scene.  The painterly effect was necessary because of the abundance of detail.
