The cloth items on the right side add a certain ghostly element to the image. I am sure that the clock on the wall is no longer functional and frozen on a particular time - much as if an atomic bomb had detonated even if speaking figuratively.

The two spots on the ground are tears wept by the sun. Perhaps!

Well seen and captured.

Thanks for the comments. For me, it's the size of the chair and the student's desk, alone in the vastness of the room, that gets to me. If this were the desk of an adult the picture wouldn't have quite the poignancy. The wet spots and the faint surrounding water stains are evidence that nature has breached the roof and we have reached end game. The clock also plays its role in this silent drama. As Tony noted, its's frozen at the moment the world came to an official end for this school, and will never again be watched by students restless for play and the end of the school day. Those are my thoughts on my own picture.

I like the picture. How come it is considered sad? Nothing human last for ever. And the end just gives room for a new beginning.

It is a very fine image, to start an existential discussion.
