Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted August 18, 2016 Large view preferred. I always forget to bring a camera, so here's another iPhone image, a decent fall back. We were having dinner at a brew pub a few miles from home and captured this and the next image. Your comments are appreciated. Larry. Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted August 18, 2016 Larry, What I've noticed when using an iphone is you worry not about details, it's all about composition, especially in a landscape image like this. Of course they are good for other types of things as well. A fine image, great sky, reflection and yes indeed well composed. Take care.Best Always, Holger Link to comment

Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted August 18, 2016 Holger, You are correct about looking at composition over other details with iPhones. Here I wanted to capture a dark semblance of the pier to create compositional lines where the eye could move forward through the image from the angled center point. We really don't have much technical detail to control with these devices. Thanks for your excellent comment. Larry Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted August 18, 2016 Mike, Thanks for weighing in on this image. It's amazing that I can hold the phone still enough to get anything decent. To help with this, I use the app "640Pro" which allows me to shoot RAW tif and fires off three images at a time. Chances increase that one of the three will be sharp. Thanks, again, Mike. alfbailey 2 Posted August 18, 2016 It is always the unexpected that catches you out when you haven't got your camera. Thankfully the quality of the camera's on phones these days are excellent, so get to see the ones that would have escaped like this beauty!Looks like an idyllic place to sit with a fishing rod and a few beers : - ) It's not the camera that takes the photograph, it's the person behind it! Well done Larry! Best Regards Alf Link to comment
PJs Pics 0 Posted August 19, 2016 Beautiful colours. It is good to explore different methods of photography. I have been thinking of going back into film! Well done, Phil. Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted August 19, 2016 Alf, Thanks for your visit. Yes, it is seeing an image that matters and then capturing it and editing so that it matches the imagination and interpretation of the photographer. Ansel Adams, who was also a musician, said the negative is the score, the print the performance. Thanks. Alf. Larry Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted August 19, 2016 Phil, Thanks for looking at and commenting on this image. Getting back to film is an interesting thought. Is much film available? Would you be doing medium format or 35mm? Have a darkroom? I just read both of Bruce Barnbaum's books The Art of Photography and The Essence of Photography. His work is mostly B&W, and his writing is about using film as well as digital. Either of these books are worth a look. Thanks again for the comment. Larry Link to comment
