GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted August 1, 2016 An excellent sketch that has me wondering. I do not think that it is your Father - but not sure, but then I remembered that you said a few of your teacher friends were moving away and you were not so happy about that - I sensed you would miss them very much. I tried to read some of the titles of the books and it almost seems this person could be a teacher. No matter who it is, I see smiling eyes and a bit of bashfulness - obviously someone you care for very much. The face and body are in very good proportion - that is something I always have problems with. It is good to see you picked up your pencils and starting drawing again my friend. Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted August 1, 2016 Hi Gail! It's nice to see you back on PN. He is a teacher, but not one that is currently moving away. I'm happy the proportions look right. I wasn't stressing this one -- it was a relaxed sketch for me. If you can read 14 titles there is a prize! Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted August 1, 2016 Well, I just might take you up on that - or maybe the contest is rigged! Nice to be doing more again. Link to comment
alfbailey 2 Posted August 3, 2016 I really like the books in the background they add substance to the "intellectual" look of the teacher. A corduroy jacket with elbow patches is the only thing missing : - ) You seem to have captured a wry grin which gives the viewer an impression of a person with humor and wit. As usual you have captured the essence of the mans character and it makes me wonder if you have drawn this from memory or from a photograph? Great to see you posting again Donna. I really enjoy trying to read the faces of the characters that you bring to life with your pencil! Kind Regards Alf Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted August 3, 2016 Hi Alf,Thank you for the interesting review. I love the way you pick different aspects I focused on; it makes me feel like this is really "seen." I made him more "nerdy" than he is, but yes, he is drawn partly from a likeness and at least 50% from my memory. And, he is funny and witty. The books are just organic to who he is. I'm sure he owns a corduroy jacket with elbow patches. Thank you so much for the visit! - Donna Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted August 21, 2016 There is a familiarity in your strokes that somehow projected to me someone who was special to you . Often we don't see them for years but in our minds - little flashes go by and we see them every so often - it is good that you sketched this one.. Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted October 18, 2016 Lovely and the books in the background adds value to the image. Not too long ago, when you entered many houses, there would be books proudly displayed. I am no longer observing this. I suppose I would have to check their tablet or check their facebook account to see which books they have read. All the best, Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted October 21, 2016 Tony, it always feels nicer to be in a home filled with books, doesn't it. It helps make something in to a home Link to comment

rivera r 0 Posted December 5, 2016 Good work, Donna, I can read some clear titles but not El Quijote in the back of his head. ;) Hugs for Navidad and the best New 17! Link to comment
