The bearded vulture is with a wingspan of 2.8 meters the largest bird

of prey in Europe. After being wiped out more than a century ago, it

is reintroduced in the Alps since some years. In 2014 nine breeding

pairs were observed again in Switzerland. We were very lucky to see

this mighty bird on the way to Derborence in Wallis.

Great news to read that the species are surviving! 

I don't usually rate images, but this deserves a 7, the detail in the larger view is exceptional!

Thanks Alf for your comment and rating. In fact I think it is an exceptional shot, especially as I am not specialised in bird photography and I do not have the dedicated equipment for bird photographers.
