tm_j 30 Posted April 18, 2016 Muito Obrigado Joao! Yes, I find this setup as decent (GX8 + Lumix/Leica 100-400mm) since it's very compact (only 3lbs or so). It's not real sharp (being a zoom) and need a bit of PS sharpening but I need the reach of 800mm ( 400mm with 1/2 sensor) and the versatility of a zoom. I am checking these out because my arm has been aching shooting handheld and I need to reduce the load. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted April 19, 2016 Been missing you around here but with the new lightweight gear you can get back in the field ;-). The camera/lens combination did an excellent job and you time the shot perfectly... Mike Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted April 19, 2016 Thanks Greg and Verena! Nice to hear from you .. kind of wonder what you do with all those lambs in the winter ? :-) Thanks Mr. Mancil for you kind greetings! I actually buy a couple more packages of mirorless gears besides this one. One is the Zuiko 300mm F4 PRO but that lens is on hold since they have some problem meeting demand, I heard. The other one that I bought is a Sony A6300 camera (a bit larger sensor since it's 1.5 cropped just like Nikon cropped sensor) but I have not had a chance to test it out yet and using it with a Sony 24-240mm does not seem that fast and the focal length is too short for bird shooting. I probably need to get the a-mount 70-400mm Sony lens and an adapter to see what I can do with it. All this because I think eventually I will have to sell my Canon 500mm F4 since I am getting older and it's hard to shoot handheld. I don't like to shoot with a tripod, btw. The serious birdshot (like Peregrine food transfer .. ect) will always need a DSLR and I probably think about a Canon 400mm DO or 600mm DO (if it ever make it to the market) if all this does not work for me. In any event, I think the GX8 + 100-400mm will give me at least 80-90% of static and easy flying birdshots. Link to comment
