Tony the warm light is magical as is the totally nautical scene. The light on the sail and its shadow pattern are especially nice. Good one.

I like the contrast between the orange in the water, and the bluish tone on the boats. The composition is commendable, with the array of boats in the foreground and the big boat with the mast in the mid ground, giving a sense of depth to the scene. I understand the challenge involved in getting clean composition with such clutter of boats and fleeting light, and you have managed it beautifully.

That sail catching the last rays of the sun is the feature that sparks this picture. Really nice work at dusk, the hour you know and appreciate as well as anyone.

Radu - Thanks. There is something about warm light that makes me very relaxed and glad to be alive to cherish the moment.

Holger thanks for telling me what you liked. Besides warm light, water just adds to my sense of enjoyment.

Supriyo - thank your for your detailed comment.  I almost wish there was a human element but I suppose everyone was at supper.

Hi Tony, knowing that there is always room for "heretic" opinions about your photos allow me this:

Light is indeed sweet and the boat in in the middle draws much of my attention but i think there was no way to deal with the chaotic arrangement of this small fleet of boats around it. I try to stay focused on the boat with the sail but there are too many white distractions around it.

Still it's a photo that i would have taken, and posted, just for the sake of the light in it.

keep on shooting.

Michail - as you know there is always room for contrarian opinions on my images and I take each one seriously.  Here is the way I was thinking: Some people say that you should have some foreground interest in a landscape image and I feel that the 9 small boats in the foreground add some interest and are darker than the well lit boat with the sail. The boats in the background are fairly dark and I find it gives the viewer more context about this particular location and a sense of depth.

Based on your feedback, I now see another possibility for a 2nd image where I would have gone down to the foreground pier, selected a medium telephoto with a fairly wide aperture and get that boat occupying 75 percent of the image with the background slightly out of focus - a completely different image.

I could hope that if I am in the area next summer that I would get one boat with a sail and the light hitting it like this. Perhaps a different photo opportunity might present itself.

All the very best,

Tony, you got me! I'm a sucker for sunset, boats, sail boats, wooden boats, and any harbor scene. You hit on all counts, and with a lovely composition as well. I also like Mikhail's comments, which could have resulted in an extraordinary image. Still, this captures a unique and special moment that will be very difficult to replicate. For me, I'm just thankful when an opportunity like this comes up, and I hope I can take as full advantage as you have here.

Glad you liked it "as is' and this is not to condemn others who might have a different feel to this image.

Thanks I liked the scene and I agree that it will be difficult to replicate. I recently visited a favorite location hoping to improve on a shot I had done in the past and it proved to be 'mission impossible' because too much had changed.
