I was back at this location where I took a photo of this same tree in

Feb. 2005 with my then new Nikon D70. That first image is in this

folder too.

I went back to your older image to make some comparisons and was surprised to find that the D70 image was such good quality. Of course it's difficult to make an exact side by side comparison because the light, processing and lens could all be totally different.  But suffice to say although there are going to be improvements in image definition with the D7100 the older image was still very good.  I like both by the way!  Great subject too!

Thanks for stopping by Alf.  The shots I did with the D70 can be enlarged to a nice 8x12 inch print and still retain a lot of detail.  I find that processing those old raw files with the newest PS CC ACR  brings up the quality to similar to modern cameras.  True, the D7100 has 4 times the pixel area, so much larger prints can be made.
