Christal1664882414 0 Posted January 2, 2015 I realize this is a little soft in the distance, but the colors were so remarkable that I wanted to share this Palouse scene. Link to comment

margaret1 0 Posted January 2, 2015 You're right, the colors are stunning. Wow! I'm wondering how it would work with a bit less sky. May you and your family have a wonderful New Year. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted January 2, 2015 Wonderfully soft in fact. Well done and I particularly like the vanishing road... Mike Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted January 2, 2015 Bill.....thanks! The point of view was from the top of Steptoe Butte, the highest point in the Palouse. I have often been in the Palouse, but this was the first time I had gone up there to shoot. Margaret.....so good to hear from you! Happy New Year to you as well! I actually did remove a bit of the sky already, but I didn't want to deviate too much from the original dimensions. But you're probably right because the top part of the sky doesn't offer much. :-) Thanks so much! Mike....soft....yes, the lighting here is so remarkable. I actually have to lessen the saturation for fear nobody will believe how it really looks! :-) Warren....this is an area called the Palouse.....an agricultural region south of Spokane, WA. It is a magnet for photographers.....just one of those unique places where the lighting is extraordinary, and the contour of the land is Mother Nature at her best. You really should put this on your list of places to spend some time. We're lucky in that we have some good friends who live here, and we go often. Each and every time offers us something unique and different from the previous time. And storms on the Palouse.....well, just short of miraculous! Oh, here they grow largely lentils and garbanzos, but much more as well. Link to comment
JeffBryce 0 Posted January 4, 2015 I like the curves in the dark road or creek mid-ground; it's hard to discern what it is, as it appears to come from nowhere and lead to nowhere. Too bad, as this type of curve can make a great image. Yes, the sky is bland; so why include so much of it? I think the image would look much better with a tighter composition. I've not been there yet, but I can see why you love this place. Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted January 4, 2015 Yes, it is hard to tell, but it's a creek. I was at the highest point possible and no matter where I would have stood I wouldn't have been able to capture all of it. That's due to the undulating nature of the topography, which is what appeals to me so much. I agree about the sky, but I'm not sure about the resulting ratio. To keep it at a ratio I would like, if I crop the top, I'd also need to snip a bit off the sides. That could work though. I'll experiment with it. Thanks for your input! Link to comment
