I'm looking at this very wonderful portrait of a policeman and thinking that I wish I could do such work, seemingly so simple yet so pleasing.

I won't rate any more, though I would rate this highly, in part because of the wonderful tones and skillful, straightforward composition, though I have a reservation about the 'aspect ratio' being kept correct -- it looks a slight bit distorted to the wide side, but that's judging from the cop's face, and maybe he just has an unusually wide and square face.

I'd be very proud to have taken (and submitted) such a wonderful portrait/documentary photo.

You have no idea of how deeply touched I am by your incredibly kind words.  They come from someone whose incredible body of work is so highly respected.  And so I consider the source.

My best,

I really like the casual aspect of this image, it seems so natural and relaxed, as if somehow you were invisible to him.  My only small reservations is that you cut his toe off, though I'm not sure that it matters.

Very well done Michael!

I shot this in the Times Square area of Manhattan, so unfortunately I have no way to attach this poor officer's missing toes.  Had my vision been a bit more acute when I looked at the view screen of my camera, this entire issue may not have arisen at all.  When push comes to shove, though, how material is it to the overall quality of the image?  If you agree with Alf, he didn't seem as concerned about it as you.
