Not quite monochrome, but this is exactly how it came out of the camera, the only

processing is a slight amount of sharpening. Just a comparison to the previous posting,

no warm tones this time, and no reeds. Your thoughts and comments are always

appreciated. Thank You.

The blackened trees in the mist create such a tranquil atmosphere Alf. To boot there is still a great reflection in the water even with the foggy mist. Beautiful work Alf.

Best Always,

Holger

What a marvelously understated image!  Mystical mist, serene reflections, timeless silhouettes, a couple of sheep for reality and there on the right, the ghost of a Viking longboat.  This is one of your best... Mike

This capture is beautiful Alf. While I had no problem with the previous posting, your 'eye' for Composition is displayed so expertly here. It is always so nice to see the leaves on the trees during the warm months, but when the trees are devoid of leaves, you see so much more. I love the intricate 'dance' of the bare branches. It is as if this main clump of trees in the foreground is like a Family. Each 'member' has their own distinct charms, yet I see branches that intertwine as if to keep each one in the 'safety' of the Family. I also like the softness of the green and earth tones.

How beautiful. Love the atmosphere and the foggy weather. The composition and reflections are also great.

Alf,  I can feel myself breathing in the damp foggy air.  Wonderful soft and moody image.  This looks as if it could be a golf course.  Isn't it neat when an image like this is almost B&W.  Terrific!   Larry

Many Thanks I'm really pleased you like it. The first two images turned out with a blueish cast because of dawn light, but it was very early.

The diminishing visibility is what I like about foggy images, the atmosphere of mystery and the glimpse of the unknown.  Thank you so much for your positive feedback, much appreciated!

I sometimes think the best way of processing shots like this is no processing at all, maybe the vignetting could be a bit more subtle.

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

It's very gratifying when a mood is conveyed successfully through a photograph.

Sincere Thanks!

Many Thanks for your thoughtful feedback, much appreciated!

I have been to the same spot several times, but only twice come across conditions such as this. Bloody Vikings invade everywhere, even my photo! : - )

My preference for winter light and cold weather is usually met with people questioning my sanity ( I sometimes question it myself) but I think this image kind of tells the reason why. You describe the bare tree's and branches so well, and I like your analogy of family, a group that competes yet still acts as a unit.  I love the shapes of trees when bare or just covered in frost or snow, dormant but very much alive.

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

I love shooting misty / foggy scenes, the prevailing weather adds so much atmosphere or mood to an image. I think the choice of subject is important and the presence of background objects that can be seen faintly. Also I learned from early mistakes where I processed foggy images as I would any other and consequently ruined them. Adding contrast for instance really doesn't help a foggy scene.  I might re-think the vignetting, it wasn't supposed to be that noticeable.

Many Thanks for your thoughtful feedback!

We just don't get enough foggy weather, and I had to travel 150 miles to find some snow this weekend! : - )

I'm really pleased you like it. Thank You!

Probably not the best weather for people with arthritis or lung disease etc but suffice to say I love this kind of weather.

The green fields beyond the trees does resemble a golf course to some degree, but that's probably true of a lot of UK sheep grazed fields, the closely nibbled grass having a manicured appearance.

I agree it is neat when an image has such subtle shades of colour. Sometimes with processing, like everything else at times, less is more!

Sincere Thanks Larry!
