dgv 1 Posted November 11, 2014 The Tower of London remembers the Great War. This year marks the anniversary of one hundred years since the First World War was declared. Ceramic poppies representing every soldier from Britain and Empire killed will be planted by November 11. The Artist Paul Cummins was inspired by the battlefield accounts of an unknown soldier who died in Flanders. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge unveiled the project and planted their own poppies. All flowers are to be sold off, raising millions, to be split between six charities with links to the Armed Forces. Each poppy is handmade by a team of at least 35 people and it takes around three days to create. The British public has flocked to see the installation in their millions, finding it both moving and beautiful. Thank you for viewing and commenting. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted November 11, 2014 It is an amazing spectacle, made all the more breathtaking when you realise that the 888,246 poppies represent a real persons life. Some of them just 15 years old that enlisted secretly and some cases where whole villages of men folk and communities were wiped out completely. Real people that didn't return home leaving family's devastated!Your photograph is very moving, the poppies seeming to be on parade and their ghostly shadows falling across the front of what could be interpreted as the tracks of a military vehicle, a most fitting tribute. It is good that we remember them! Take care my friend! Alf Link to comment
