My eyes were drawn to this image right away. There is NOTHING for me that disappoints in this composition. The lighting is beautiful. The dog seems so cuddled up and comfy on it's favorite pillow, that favorite toy shows signs of being well loved. The textures of the wall and the wooden floor compliment the image even more. But what I like the most is the fine colour in the coat of the dog,, those sparkling eyes. This lovely coat shows the signs of being well cared for. So lovely. I love excellent pet shots - this one would be framed if was mine!!!

The fine detail and superb dof become more apparent when viewed larger.  But it isn't only the technicalities that make this image superb, it's the capture of the expression on that coy face, the composition and the timing. This little pampered pooch even appears to has his own designer water bowl : - )

Excellent work Dimitris!

This picture has a wonderful story behind it....When I was In Cyprus, last Autumn I was walking around the Turkish part of old Nicosia with a friend of mine photographing scenes there. We were in the Büyük Han ( The great Inn ) which was built by the Ottomans in 1572 and is one of the best architectural monuments on the Island, now restored. Besides having many original features it is a thriving arts centre and has old style cafes, restaurants, and shops. We came upon the scene that you see in the photograph. The owner of the pet was a Turkish Cypriot lady owner of a souvenir shop and she was sitting outside her shop chatting with some friends. I asked her in English if I could take a picture of her dog and she was delighted..In the conversation that ensued she asked me where I was from and I told her told I was a Greek of the diaspora. She immediately switched language into fluent Greek and she told me that she was born and bred In Nicosia.. I took a picture of her beloved pet to whom she was talking all the while in Turkish and I am sure she was 'directing' him..I showed her the shot and she was thrilled, just like you, Gail..-:).I took a snap of her and you can see her reaction...-:). Thank you for your wonderful comment my friend. (By the way, I printed the picture and I would give it to her next time I visit the Island).

I have taken a leaf out of your book...Most pictures look better when viewed larger and I don't understand people who view and rate pictures on their mobile phones....In my opinion the 'rate pictures' forum should be abandoned. If you truly appreciate photography you should open the picture and view it as the author intended...

You mentioned his water bowl..I am sure you noticed that the glass is frosted because the water is cold...As the temperature was in the thirties the lady owner of the pooch had a huge thermos flask of cold water for her self and her pet...:-).

As always thank you very much for your comment and I am looking forward to seeing your next upload.

Best regards.

Good to see you again !. Of course I don't mind you posting a picture of your pet. I like the co-ordination of his fur and his bed and you are right in what you say. Thank you for your comment, my friend.

Best.

I am so happy that you decided to tell me the story behind this image Dimitrius!! Knowing what motivated you and what an impression the woman made on you (so welcoming:) will always resonate within you. It will not only do so when you look at this image over the years, but I find that when you travel, people and interactions with them that are so 'joyous' never fail to inspire you not only in 'life' but as you contemplate other compositions. Just think, if she had been cold and uncommunicative, what a different impression of the whole experience you would have had. You would have this wonderful image of her dog, but it was the interaction between the two of you that has 'woven more layers' into the 'fabric' of this wonderful image. Thanks so much for sharing your 'story'. It made my day!!!

Kind regards always, Gail
