I understand this is a katydid and not a grasshopper - more

specifically a conocephalus strictus (a straight lanced meadow

katydid). I searched "grasshopper with tail" to discover grasshoppers

don't have tails. I further understand that this thing I call a tail

protruding from the rear of this katydid is called an ovipositor.

What I don't understand is what I observed this katydid doing with her

ovipositor. Looked a little too lewd to post. Comments and critique

welcome.

Wayne,I like the result of your macro here, especially how green transparency is seen, also good choice for black bg.I have a question about this photo, did you do it with a single shot or more?

The clarity and focus is exceptional. Well done!

I like the processing with the mix of full vs de-saturated colors. (I have done one recently). I am guessing that the background was also green and you probably wanted to make this creature stand out. In the past years when  I have tried that, the reaction was quite mixed.

Tony,

Thanks.  I hate to confess, but oddly these saturated and desaturated hues happened on their own.  I was surprised it happened and even more surprised I liked it.  I have never been able to do this kind of thing well intentionally.
