I went to the lake the other day testing out a new lens when I spied a

fellow photographer. Of course there was an immediate rapport so I

was comfortable with telling him that he knew we both must be truly

obsessed to be out photographing birds in 17 degree weather. I’d like

to think he was a little more obsessed than me, because when I got

there he had already exhausted two batteries and his third was running

low. Comments and critique appreciated.

Wayne,

this is a great image. Good timing to get the landing bird, great composition having it there between the other three. the one on the left looks a bit annoyed :-)

Patsy,

Thanks.  This appears to be a place where people often come to feed these birds.  I thinks they do perform a little for their meal.

David,

Thanks very much for the kind comment.  I was surprised that I could wait at all in the frigid temperatures, but the birds are mesmerizing in flight.  I was pleased with the image but it was not until I recognized "the line" that I saw it as unique.

All has been said about this choice capture;it does feel especially good to see such results after a stint in the cold.Exceptional image....Bravo!This one to my Favorites.

Laurent,

That is a big compliment - much appreciated.  I could have watched these birds all day if I wasn't freezing every part of my body.  Don't know how you do it.

Very nice and balanced composition. Bird photographs have become so commonplace that it is truly difficult to produce something different and eye-catching, and this one certainly accomplishes this and much more. Congratulations.

Kenneth,

I appreciate your comments.  I think this is what I sensed about the image.  It is most encouraging that another artist perceived the same.

Cool clean composition with the three relaxed chaps and the odd one showing off. It is very well balanced with a peculiar expressive quality. Compliments,
