Early every New Year's morning I take my camera and stalk the

empty streets to see what I can see. You meet only the odd

wanderer or the occasional sleeping reveler, so it's mostly just the

streets and me. In such resounding quiet, without the distraction of

people and the usual tumult of the city, I find my senses are

sharpened and I hunt game that would otherwise escape my notice.

I'm primarily a street photographer but I must say I sometimes prefer

it when there's no one else around.

Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment. Plastic bag pictures are at an obvious and automatic disadvantage since they have such negative connotations with most people. But it's not about plastic bags from a conceptual point of view - at least not in this photo - but of relationships of texture, form, light and dark within a composition. Most people get stuck on the trash component; you're one of the few who doesn't.

I like the limited color in PBONYM#1, but this one really grabs me.  The textures, the light and dark areas, and the translucency of the bag are great, but it's all the possibilities about the contents of the bag that make it especially intriguing.  The area under the bag is dark (did the bag's contents scorch it?).  The white stuff looks caustic and dangerous (did it come from the bag?).  I'm torn between wanting to look in the bag to satisfy my curiosity, and running from the potentially unsafe conditions.  Our choice with this bag may offer insight into how we approach life in general.

Great slices of suspence; like a thriller movie, set in a very small world.

Out of the two, I prefer this one for the more limited range of colours; a more chilling and cold atmoshere making the movie rendering in my head even more of a thriller.

Bad shadow of the past year and  "the things" in the shiny plastic bag...very scary atmosphere...great texture and light...all the shades of darkness ... Really great photo!

I like this interesting and lugubrious scene of the crime composition perhaps left to Hercule Poirot to investigate, who else?. The shape of the white paint, the cracks with the black hole in the middle and an intriguing bag are the only remanent clues of this urban tragic scenario for the viewers to imagine.  Nice one Jack, keep them coming and 2014 looks promising... Very best wishes,

"The common Cormorant or Shag

Lays Eggs inside a plastic bag

The reason you will see no doubt,

It is to keep the lightning out.

But what these unobservant birds

Have never noticed is that herds

Of wandering bears may come with buns

And steal the bags to hold the crumbs!"

A nonsense verse that I stole and substituted the word "paper" for "plastic"  with a bit of poetic license!

I wonder what creature laid it's eggs in this bag?

Wonderful intrigue and mystery!

Best Regards

As much as I liked #1, this one is my favorite of the two. That texture in the white area makes this one work in a way that #1 didn't have.

Very nice.

for the reasons you explained in your reply to Bengt's comment I also prefer this one: it's less the actual objects but far more tonality, colors (for their very limited appearance here) and textures.

It definitely pays off to be at unusual times at usual places...
