This is a re-submission because nobody liked the thick border I had

around this image. For some reason, even though I deleted the cache,

I was not able to switch out the new image for the old image, so I'm

resubmitting it.

Looks like a white mole! ;-)  I don't recall seeing the first version but this presents well.  It's hard to judge scale but I get the impression this is massive.  Good shot....  Mike

What Mike said about the scale.  A person, mountain goat, or something we all recognize would be helpful in revealing the true size of this glacier. Great details throughout though, in both the dark and bright areas.  You can probably thank the overcast or north sky conditions for that element.  Happy New Year,  see you in 2014.  Best, LM.

Hi Christal, the tones, colors and details are very fine.  I understand the comments about scale, but it's tough for most to pull a goat out of one's camper when needed!  All the best, Jeff

What........

so am I the only one that carry's a spare goat in my camper : - )

Seriously though scale can be an issue when viewing vast scenes without any measurable elements visible.  But that aside this is most impressive, the detail and textures are captured very well!

As for borders......people seem more fickle about borders than they are about the photographs they display, so I say keep experimenting with them and find your own way.

Best Regards

Well, gentlemen, I'm so pleased to hear from you!  I recently decided to not submit my images for ratings, so I honestly thought I wouldn't get very many comments.  Thanks for taking the time.    As for the scale, I have many shots of this, actually, and some which do show it more to scale.  The thing I was going for here was the amazing detail and crevasses in the ice, as well as the color.....of the rocks as well.  That seemed a bit lost when I shot the entire scene.  But I do agree.....next time I'll wait for the goat!  :-)

Not every day to see something like this,I like both texture of rocks and glacier, after how it looks seems to be ice from many, many years there. You are right to see this in large view for have an idea how impressive this is.About the border, is each one choice and as Alf said you will find the way.I had in my first years here lot of flowers photos with black frame because I thought that are better seen with black bg.On some sites have possibility to change bg color and I think this is very good, some photos look different and very good on black indeed.

my best regards

Hi Christal, Since scale has already been covered lets talk about how great the detail is viewed larger. Quite an impressive shot. All the cracks and crevices are interesting. Take care.

You really nailed the focus/sharpness on this one. Plus, the composition is nice. There is an Alberta folder somewhere in my portfolio which you may want to check out on a rainy day. Cheers, Jim

I try not to get hung up on borders unless it distracts me from the main image. If, for example, you had a multi-colored border with purples, yellows and reds, I would find that distracting. Over the years I have tried many borders but I have now settled for a narrow black border for the purposes of web display. This is, of course, a personal choice.

By the way you have a lovely, sharp and nicely composed image. I was not there so the following thoughts may not be applicable.  The glacier is the main subject for me and it lies in an aesthetically pleasing diagonal position. By darkening the image and then De-saturating the resulting image just a tad, might give a bit more attention to the glacier. Even if you decide not to do that, it is a very fine image as you have it here.

I think this is a great image. The rocks have such beautiful colours and striations. I've never seen a Glacier except for on TV. I imagine it is quite breathtaking!

Nicely done Christal.
