Very sweet expression and fun set up. She gets a little lost, especially in terms of the colors. The colorization of her face feels very pasted on and choppy to me, not really photo-like but not great illustration either. Overall, though she's quite lovely with a great smile and eyes, the photo itself feels a bit harsh/strong to look at.

There's a cute, natural expression on her face. For me, there is just too much foliage wherein it takes over as the subject. There's also far too many hot spots in her face and on many of the leaves

I don't mind the foliage placement as it does frame her face well, without obscuring any features. She has an adorable expression.

The over the top post production kills this for me.  The over-saturation and high contrast are jarring. This approach may work for some edgy sport promo portrait but as a portrait of a child it just gets in the way.  Also as Ken mentioned the blown highlights which make up a lot of the face are troublesome, the lack of detail in the highlights sort of leave her eyes floating discontented.

The shirt does not work well as the text is non decipherable. Going with a plain shirt or one with a central and clear logo would have helped.

Such a beautiful girl imprisoned by foliage. That's the first impression I got when viewing: green leaf jail. I'm sure it's her left hand grip that gives me that locked-up feeling. The post-processing, as others have said, is really really bad. And the t-shirt, if it was worn with the intention of sending a message, failed. Other than that it's a great photo ;) When this photo was snapped I'm 100% sure it wasn't with the intention of it being critiqued as Photo of the Day. I'm happy for Leslie to have this shot as a memory of this beautiful youngster. Keep shooting. Perhaps everything need not be shared.

The photograph appears to be the victim of a "free" instagram filter.  I applaud the effort to create something different but it has, unfortunately, not worked.  The expression is adorable but there's something awkward about her interaction with the foliage, made worse by the editing on the right side of her head which looks, as Fred pointed out, cut and pasted.  It almost looks like a collage you would see hanging on the wall of a teenaged girl's room where she cut parts from a fashion magazine and pasted them to a backdrop.  Additionally, there is simply too much foliage, it overwhelms the subject.  Some judicious cropping might help.

The photo is not without its appeal or potential... Keep going!

The appearance of the photo, its collage effect and the instagram filter, may be contributing to a photographic statement implied by the title. But the child's uniqueness still is present despite all that. Quite lovely really, if I look at it that way.
