Thanks for viewing/comments! It's a very cloudy day and lighting is not that

great. However, I went up to the bluff where the eagles perch to get this 'in-the-

air' angle type of shot against the ocean.

Love this shot of an eagle in flight.  It is well composed with good focus (especially on the eye).  Well done!

Thanks Bill! I keep thinking about how to shoot these fellow after my first trip at the  end of May. Took me a month to come up with this 'scheme' to shoot them the way I think would show them on more like eye level type of shot. Too bad about lighting but may be I can sneak out again in a few weeks back to Anchorage and get lucky with sunlight shot  :-)

I had used my 580EX II flash + Better Beamer Flash extender to help with the dull light also.

TmJ - It looks like you had a plan before setting out. It also looks like your plan worked out well as this is a very good image. I also assume you have tried this shot before as your settings worked very well. At first when I looked at the shutter speed I thought it would be to slow, but then I saw the ISO setting was up.The overall technical factors are very good. The light background works well with this dark subject. The overall composition excellent.

Thanks Dave! I had lots of flying shot the first trip ... up, up in the sky and it looks very uninteresting. I also notice that the ocean blue makes excellent background and I want eye-level shot. So, I ... look/drive around to find a path to allow me to go up the bluff where they perch/fly and soar to shoot at eye level. I also have seen some workshop images of eagle in the winter that look really good and I figure they must have use the flash to get the bird details so well.  It always help to do the homework before shooting and ... the rest depend on luck! :-)

Beautiful capture, glad you got some shooting time into the trip.

You might have cropped it a little less to give it a more space on the left, top and bottom.
