Hi Stephen,

The contrast between the thin little twig and the huge trunks is amazing. I also appreciate the mixture of saturated colors. A pleasure to watch. Best regards Per.

It has a mood of a damp, moisten forest floor, the big tree and the young seedling is a wonderful contrast. The diffused lighting helped you to get a nice even exposure. Nicely framed image. I believe, the big file has plenty of sharpness, but reducing to this small size, the image last some sharpness. I noticed, bigger the file size, the computer has more difficulty to recalculate all the pixels and keep the appearance of sharpness. Lately I noticed,  some of my images come out from the printer, sharper then the image on the screen, regardless, I have a very fine monitor.

Cheers.

A lovely capture with rich colours and details! What makes the photo is already mentioned above: it is the size contrast between the trees. Well seen and done!

Best regards,

Alain

As many of you have noted, it was the contrast between the small sapling and the giant trees behind it that motivated me to take the picture.  I did this walk with a Hasselblad H4D-40 but without my favorite lens (35-90mm) which I normally would have chosen for this site.  Instead, I was limited to 100mm and 150mm primes (modest telephotos in this format), and that greatly affected the compositions I could try to get.  Actually, I think using a single prime in an area where one normally uses a zoom is a good exercise.  The Hasselblad raw conversion software (Phocus) seems to accentuate green colors.  This looks very green to my eyes, but I didn't do anything (saturation, contrast, etc.) that would have affected the colors.  It's like shooting with Velvia.

Makes me hope that I will in the Stout Grove in a couple weeks -- again.  There is never enough of this magic. Thank you.

hi Stephen-A great metaphor for youth & maturity. here we have a young sapling growing & struggling for it's place in the sun while the older tree has survived to finally reach it's massive size & height, , a process that probably required hundreds of years.Your colours are beautiful with brilliant saturated greens & the dark colours of the mature trees. Well done-Ross

Thanks for the comments.  Mikhail, I hope you got the photos you were after.  Ross, it was the contrast in size that made me frame this, just as you saw in the photo.
