Cedars (I hope, after labeling it such, and with three degrees in biology) in

the Stout Grove of the Redwoods National Park of Northern California.

This is a blend of five focus points. Your comments and suggestions

would be appreciated. Thanks.

Stephen,  It would be a bad and incorrect pun to say that I would pine to live among these cedars.  You create a wonderful sense of grandeur here, enormity in a closeup.  Terrific image.  Best to you.  Larry

Images such as this must be amongst the most difficult to obtain a satifactory combination of elements, but the proportions and subtle seperation in tones and textures make this both interesting and pleasurable to view. I am particularly pleased you included the area of ferns at the bottom, this seems to anchor the shot and allow a sense of proportion and perspective.

Compliments!

Stephen - Alf could not have said it better. Great composition (especially including the ferns), great texture, great color and great multifocus merge. I have been there and this image captures what I remember it looking and feeling like. Great image.

Mike, Larry, Alf, and Dave, thanks so much for your comments.  I've learned a bit about my own photograph just from reading your comments.

The more I think about it, the more I believe these are redwoods rather than cedars.  Cedars just don't have the deeply furrowed bark as these trees display.  I could tell immediately if I could see the needles, but a good biologist should be able to tell just by looking at the bark.  In my own defense, I studied birds rather than trees; that's my only excuse, and I think it's a rather poor one.  Anyway, I love the Stout Grove; I've been there on several occasions.

Love the photo Stephen!  I am neither a arborist or dendrologist, but having lived my whole life under big and tall cedars, those pictured are not.  Now, redwood or sequoia, I would not know if it fell on me!

Doug, with three degrees in biology (but concentrating on birds), I'm a bit embarrassed with my title, as I mentioned in a earlier post.  Sometimes I get a bit hasty.
