For me this kind of image has a double possibility and both have

their sense: B/W… the inexhaustible memory after the painful past,

color…the full of life rebirth after the fall of the wall:...Ciaomau!

Hi Maurizio,

I like both versions, as each has something of interest to me.

The perspective used for this image is what stands out on the positive note.

The use of F/11 with a 28mm wide angle lens did compromise the definition from what the lens could produce.

I rarely use any wide angle lens stopped down beyond F/5.6, as this shot could have been done by manually focusing the lens at 20 feet away. The DOF would have been preserved.

Best Regards my friend, Mike

I think I prefer the B&W but my favorite part is the person in the missing panel on the wall, reflected also in the window. My eye is drawn to it and what may be on the other side. Nice work my friend :)

The colour / B & W comparison, is very interesting. My interpretation : -

The B & W does project a mood of gritty hardship and forced restraint.

The Colour version, communicates an era of progress, and the metamorphosis of a city and a nation.

Excellent!

Dear Maurizio,

You raise an interesting question. I do like both images. There probably is a tendency among photographers to drift toward B+W when trying to convey gravitas, as a subject such as this deserves. B+W often does have a way of drawing the viewer in to the essence of a scene, without distraction.

Regarding your question relating to this image, I prefer the B+W version. I don't see the color as showing "rebirth" in this specific scene, but the B+W most certainly adds power and drama.

Thanks for asking the question! I look forward to what others have to say!

This is a wonderful picture! Congratulations!

Tim

Agree with you about the interpretation, I like how you did this photo from this angle and result.

Both Versions are very important. But the B&W is in my eyes favorite, because of the black woman in the lack of the wall. The yellow in the color-Version is too strong.  Regards. hen Ry

Black and white seems fitting, at least when I think of the Berlin Wall. Because of the reflection on the right, I am thinking you are leaning out of a bus???

A most marvelous image of this iconic monument to pain and the suppression of man. I like this b/w version more because the right side looks like a building overlooking the wall and I am not aware that it is a bus. I'm also more aware of the reflections in the glass than in the color version.  I also like the lone figure on the other side of the wall that makes the image more poignant somehow. Bravo!
