Colin,  I believe you have the name of this bird slightly wrong.  There are international rules about common names in birds, so birdwatcher's can avoid using Latin Scientific Names.  It is a Goldfinch and probably has another word in front of that noun.  I live in the state of Washington in the USA where our state bird is the American Goldfinch. Ours has lots of yellow but none of the red coloring.

Nice image but it can be sharpen a bit more and the background is too noisy and should have had noise reduction software clean them up.

A beautiful portrait of this beautiful little bird among my favorites, I do not agree with Jerry, the scientific name Carduelis carduelis (which means eating cardo) makes it identifiable in any country , in Italy it is called Cardellino , you golden finch, I agree with Tm J try to sharpen a little more, ciao Giangiorgio

First a note on Jerry's comment.  I think the common name of this bird is the European Goldfinch, although I believe in the english speaking part of Europe it maybe just called Goldfinch.  The scientific name is Carduelis carduelis.

Regarding the image. It is a touch soft and looks like it could use a little sharpening, and I seem to see some of the noise mentioned above.  Still it is a nice capture, good catch light in the eye., a very respectable image,. You could crop it a bit so the Goldfinch isn't so centered.
